Jackets, Now and Then

March 26, 2009 by WendyB

Earlier this week, I wore the Ossie Clark shirt/jacket I got in London last year. Back in 1983 or 1984, I wore a kickass ski jacket. Thanks for dredging this up, high-school classmate Mel. Oh, the wonders of Facebook. UPDATED TO ADD: In the first photo, I’m wearing the gold version of my Nuit Ring….

Book Club: Introduction to A Distant Mirror

March 26, 2009 by WendyB

It’s become de rigueur for newspaper columnists, bloggers and people standing around the water cooler to bemoan the decline of civilization as evidenced by what one historian called “economic chaos, social unrest, high prices, profiteering, depraved morals, lack of production, industrial indolence, frenetic gaiety, wild expenditure, luxury, debauchery, social and religious hysteria, greed, avarice, maladministration,…

Going Ape Over Jacques Tiffeau

March 24, 2009 by WendyB

I had no particular interest in the gorilla-arm look recently shown by Balenciaga and Giles Deacon. BalenciagaPhoto source: Style.com Giles DeaconPhoto source: Style.com Then I noticed this vintage coat with monkey-fur arms by Jacques Tiffeau online. I figured I’d just share the the photos with y’all and remark on how there’s nothing new under the…

Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

March 23, 2009 by WendyB

When I emailed these pictures of my latest jewelry design to gorgeous ex-blogger ENC last week, I wrote “my white whale, my Waterloo, my greatest folly” in the subject line. Truly, my Virginia Woolf Whistle pendant is my greatest (and most pun-tastic) jewelry folly to date, but I’m confident I will surpass it in craziness…

Destined for Great Things

March 22, 2009 by WendyB

Here’s my gorgeous nephew, Sebastian Berry, looking like he’s going to his company’s annual picnic in a tropical button-down shirt and khakis. I don’t know what that fixed stare is about. “I’ve been hyp-mo-tized!” People keep asking me if Mr. Berry looks like his mother or his father, but he looks more like Winston Churchill…

A Tip of the Top Hat

March 22, 2009 by WendyB

Those of you who like hair doodads and top hats should check out the Victoria & Albert museum shop. The top-hat hair clips are £8 and the bands are £12. If only 3D will do, BratBoutique sells mini top hats on Etsy. Separately, I tip my imaginary hat to TokyoBunnie for finding the cuteness that…

Buy Now, Wear Later

March 21, 2009 by WendyB

I’m digging this studded Ipanema tank top by Nine West. The studs look pretty matte in the picture. I’m not sure if they’re like that in real life, but I’m all about matte metal. Even if they’re shiny, the different shapes are interesting. The top is available for pre-order and will ship by June 1….

Christian Louboutin Recycles

March 20, 2009 by WendyB

I’m amused by the Christian Louboutin Barneys Trash Shoe. The Barneys website notes that each PVC-coated “couture trash peep toe pump” uses a “unique selection of Barneys’ materials” to create a one-of-a-kind design. The shoe is available at Barneys.com for $995.
