Recommended Reading and Week in Review

October 28, 2018 by WendyB

Last December, Kali Holloway shared a “15-point guide to surviving authoritarianism” originally published by Polish journalist and activist Martin Mycielski days after Trump’s inauguration. Read the post now to see how accurate Mycielski’s predictions of the Trump regime’s behaviors were. But don’t lose heart! As Mycielski said:

” … be strong, fight, endure, and remember you’re on the good side of history. EVERY authoritarian, totalitarian and fascist regime in history eventually failed, thanks to the PEOPLE.”

Historian Timothy Snyder’s book, On Tyranny, is similar … full of scarily accurate predictions and warnings, but also hopeful.

Speaking of hope, this “Blue Wave Trailer” by Eleven Films gave me a lot of that feeling on Monday.

Also on the blog this week:

  • November is going to have a lot of jewelry-related events.
  • I’m having a ring giveaway! Enter on Instagram.
  • In this video, I explain how to use postcardstovoters.org to get out the vote.
  • Numerous acts of violence this week can be attributed to stochastic terrorism.

You can also check out my daily recommended pre-election resistance actions here. They are mostly for New Yorkers, but there are usually a few things that can be done anywhere in the country, including phone banking and postcard-writing.

I have heard so many uninformed/inaccurate things about how single-payer health care works, so I wrote a post about how the system functions in France. Of course, every country’s system is a bit different, but France routinely gets accolades for high-quality health care. Please share, because in this system, we DO choose our doctor, pre-existing conditions ARE covered, etc.
