Getting Hitched?

June 30, 2008 by WendyB

I think this vintage gown would be a fabulous wedding dress. Mr. Blackwell vintage gown on eBay It is eye-catching AND it has an interesting story — my two requirements for any special-occasion apparel. First of all, the dress is by Mr. Blackwell. Yep, the guy who does the annoying, rhymed “Worst Dressed List” used…

Cream of the Cropped on eBay

June 22, 2008 by WendyB

While browsing eBay, this graphic, cropped jacket from Versace’s Versus line caught my eye. Gorgeous jacket, right? However, I don’t like that the seller used “Gianni Versace” in the title of the listing and saved the “Versus” information for the description. The title could have easily said “Versace Versus,” which would have been honest while…

Net-a-Porter has another sartorial option for anyone who wants to join my Golden Girls gang. (Be warned: you’ll have to be jumped in by these bitches.) Stella McCartney dress $2,595 on Net-a-Porter I’ve realized I need to give y’all an update on Net-a-Porter. I recently ordered — and returned — a few things, and the…

Revamped Vintage

June 3, 2008 by WendyB

I think E2‘s “re-worked” vintage designs are gorgeous. A “transformed” Guy Laroche It’s an interesting concept. The dresses are one-of-a-kind, but they are not purely vintage and not truly couture. For that concept, the prices are too steep for me. The Guy Laroche pictured is nearly $4,000. Even though it is unique and very beautiful,…

Proud as a Peacock

June 2, 2008 by WendyB

When I saw the peacock dress that Eva Longoria recently wore in Cannes, I wondered if it was the same dress I tried on at my friend Zang Toi‘s studio a couple of years ago. It was! Back in the day, MrB loved the teeny-tiny dress on me, but I was more interested in the…

Meet Mr. Dino

May 23, 2008 by WendyB

Earlier this month, I recommended the labels Paganne, Leonard and Goldworm to those who appreciate Pucci-esque prints. Another designer of great prints in the ’60s was Mr. Dino. According to the Vintage Fashion Guild, the business was owned by Max Cohen, who designed all the prints himself. Cohen’s wife, a fan of Dean Martin, came…

Ossie Clark in Cabaret

May 17, 2008 by WendyB

Last night, I watched one of my favorite movies, Cabaret, for the first time in years. I was thrilled to realize that Liza Minnelli was wearing the blouse version of an Ossie Clark dress that I own. Liza wearing Ossie in Cabaret My Ossie dress I still love the choreography for “Mein Herr.” Mein Herr

Kaleidoscope Eyes

May 10, 2008 by WendyB

Want to go psychedelic like me? For those who don’t “do” vintage, See by Chloe’s trippy dress is on sale at Neiman Marcus. $338, down from $520 Don’t wear it with those shoes, though. Speaking of vintage style, the New York Times (registration may be required) has a great story on Suze Rotolo, the cutie…
