Proud as a Peacock

June 2, 2008 by WendyB

When I saw the peacock dress that Eva Longoria recently wore in Cannes, I wondered if it was the same dress I tried on at my friend Zang Toi‘s studio a couple of years ago. It was!

Back in the day, MrB loved the teeny-tiny dress on me, but I was more interested in the complementary gown. The gown had a looooong train featuring the same mix of beaded/real peacock feathers used on the Eva dress. I didn’t think that was practical for me. Unless you’re a bride or being photographed on the red carpet, you’re going to spend the entire evening holding your train or asking people to please step off your train. So Zang decided to make a gown for me in the same beautiful green fabric with a shorter, plain train; he put the peacock decoration on two accessories instead. Here I am carrying the peacock fan.

I also have a peacock shawl.

Want some peacock stuff of your own? Trend de la Creme has a nice selection here.

UPDATED TO ADD: Here’s another kind of peacock fan.

First, those brilliant peacock colors are your colors, WendyB.

Second, peacocks are in the news here in Portland, Oregon. To read all about it in the Oregonian,

Your life and my life… they are so very very different. The only time I think “Peacock” is when I watch “30 Rock” or “The Office” on NBC.

As soon as I saw that dress on Eva, I immediately did a search for something (anything!) vintage with peacocks. Nothing found yet, but I am still looking.

I love peacock stuff, but it’s sort of funny too since it is a sign of vanity.

I love peacock-inspired stuff. In fact, I was going to tattoo a peacock but did a mermaid instead (might still squeeze in a peackock somewhere on me though).

Well anyway, you look great in that green dress with the peacock accessory!

I once tried growing colorful feathers to attract the female of the species, but it didn’t work out too well.
