Knockoffs

July 18, 2008 by WendyB

My new hero, the hilarious mofo Katt Williams, has a few things to say about knockoffs. He’s talking about cars, but his points can be applied to fashion knockoffs too. Not long ago, gorgeous blogger Oh Lady E pointed out Nine West’s Chloe knockoff, while Always in Style came up with a Prada flower feet…

Red Lipstick #2: YSL Rouge Pur 131

July 18, 2008 by WendyB

Today’s red lipstick recommendation is YSL’s Rouge Pur 131, also known as Opium Red. It’s deeper than my favorite red. I found a wall in Krakow that kind of matched. This lipstick doesn’t have the extra lead or whatever it is that makes my favorite lipstick semi-permanent. Still, it survived a pierogi lunch.

Banning the Trite

July 17, 2008 by WendyB

The term “effortlessly chic” has been overused to such an extent that it has surpassed “aging gracefully” in its ability to irritate me. Not only is it a fashion cliche, it’s inaccurate as well. Being effortlessly chic and/or gracefully aged requires effort AND good genes. You all are now banned from using “effortlessly chic” or…

An Example of Extremely Poor Planning

July 17, 2008 by WendyB

Tomorrow is our last full day of vacation … and we’ll be spending it in Auschwitz. I think I might have planned that better. On a happier note, I enjoyed molesting some ivy in Krakow today. (I decided to give the flowers a break.) Ivy League We also visited some good kings and queens at…

Greetings From Poland

July 16, 2008 by WendyB

The most gorgeous sight in Warsaw was definitely my friend Monika. I was sad when she went away for a month last fall, so imagine how I felt when she moved here (where she grew up) this spring. I was forced to hunt her down in her native land. At the city wall Cheers!

Red Lipstick #1: MAC’s Lasting Lust

July 15, 2008 by WendyB

A couple of people have asked me to comment on the red lipstick I wear. I’ve been feeling unqualified to do so because — even though I used to have a whole wardrobe of red lipsticks — I’ve been boringly faithful to MAC’s Pro Longwear Lipcolor in Lasting Lust for more than a year. As…

Remember the wax model of my Cleves Ring? Here’s the finished version in silver. These are just photos I took myself, rather than the professional photos that will eventually appear on my website. In the professional photos, you’ll be able to see that the swans have tiny diamond eyes. Front viewCleves RingĀ© Wendy Brandes 2007-2008…

London, Day 5: Out of Town

July 13, 2008 by WendyB

Yesterday we took a taxi, two trains, a bus and another taxi (one way) to visit the ruins of Kenilworth Castle. Kenilworth Why was I so determined to get there? Because the castle has many links to the royal ladies in my life. The castle was given to its first owner by Empress Matilda‘s dad,…
