A Short, Tight Dress to Love

July 12, 2012 by WendyB

After reading my “Drawing the Line” post about short bandage dresses yesterday, the gorgeous Anne Hjortshoj tweeted me, “They [bandage dresses] were great in 1992, i.e. the last time I wore one. Mine was Rifat Ozbek.” Ozbek was a well-known designer in the late 1980s  through the 1990s — that period of fashion that I…

Mullet Dresses Are Going Strong

June 26, 2012 by WendyB

The high/low hemline — aka mullet — is still on trend for fall. This fall-preview Michael Kors dress at Bergdorf Goodman is a beauty. I adore this look, especially when it comes in the form of a ballgown by my designing friend Zang Toi. For less formal mullet inspiration, check out my Huffington Post fashion…

A Little Bit of Disco from Ports 1961

May 23, 2012 by WendyB

This Ports 1961 dress caught my eye as I flipped through W magazine’s June trends supplement, so I thought I’d share. I like the combination of the disco-ball top and the less disco-y bottom. Perfect for those times when a full-on sequin dress would be too much!

Michael Kors’s Sleek Winning Streak Continues

May 21, 2012 by WendyB

I’ve been hyp-mo-tized by the streamlined neon dresses in Michael Kors’s Resort 2012 collection, especially this pink gown. I like that sleek silhouette so much that I couldn’t help ogling this similarly cut Kors dress on Bergdorf Goodman’s website even though I try to avoid wearing black for evening. It’s so good that if someone…

What Wendy Wore: Stacy Lomman Dress, Vintage Coat

April 16, 2012 by WendyB

MrB and I went to a preview of the musical Leap of Faith on Broadway last week. The play is based on a 1992 movie, starring Steve Martin, about a con artist posing as a faith healer. In the play, the sex-ay Raúl Esparza plays phony preacher Jonas Nightingale, who travels from town to town…

Shopping My Closet, in a Way

March 22, 2012 by WendyB

Every so often, I check out the vintage fashion listed on 1stdibs.com.  This time I felt like I’d gone shopping without spending any money. First, I noticed this tie-dyed, velvet Todd Oldham dress from the 1990s. It’s being sold by my gorgeous friend Cherie of Shrimpton Couture. After a moment, I realized why I liked…

What Wendy Wore: Terrible Outfit Photo of the Day

January 17, 2012 by WendyB

Well, the outfit isn’t terrible … just the blurry photo is. It was too windy and cold out for a redo; I ran inside right after this. Whatever! If you want excellent jewelry, you’re on the right blog. If you want excellent outfit photography, go practically anywhere else. I have to pick my battles, and…

What Wendy Wore: Gold Sequins for New Year’s Eve 2012

January 1, 2012 by WendyB

The color gold was on my mind as I got ready for New Year’s Eve. Much to my delight, it was on other people’s minds too. MrB and I gave gorgeous blogger/designer Stacy Lomman a ride to our dinner at Indochine. When Stacy turned up at our apartment wearing gold sequins that matched mine, I…

I’d Pluck It

December 18, 2011 by WendyB

I’m not the world’s biggest fan of floral prints, but I do like some, especially the abstract ones textile designer Celia Birtwell created for her husband, clothing designer Ossie Clark, in the 1960s and 1970s. Now a current designer has caught my eye with a hyper-realistic floral look. I spotted this Mary Katrantzou dress in…

Bjork’s Swan Dress Should Meet This Angry Birds Dress

December 7, 2011 by WendyB

I relish an excuse for theme dressing. You can count on me to wear a heart dress on Valentine’s Day, an earring from an ’80s Madonna video to a Madonna concert and Gaga rings to a Lady Gaga concert. When MrB retired from his job at the Wall Street Journal in 2007, I wore a…
