What Wendy Wore: Out and About in Los Angeles

March 1, 2013 by WendyB

We’re heading back to New York today, though I wish I could stay a few more days in Los Angeles, just to go to the movies if nothing else. I finally saw Django Unchained and Life of Pi while we were out here, because they were playing at the fabulous Arclight Cinemas in Hollywood. In New York, I grudgingly allow myself to be dragged to the movies once every few months. The theaters are generally disgusting, and so are the people, who are texting, talking, chewing like cows and generally carrying on in seats so narrow I might as well be flying coach, complete with drunk businessmen and screaming babies. Arclight has huge screens, great acoustics, big seats, reserved seating, and audience members who are obsessed with The Business and are, therefore, respectful and quiet during the movie.

For Life of Pi, I broke out a patent top that designer/blogger/stylist picked out for me at Intermix recently.

laclothes1What Wendy Wore to the Movies
Jacket: Stacy Lomman Fall 2012 collection (acquired 2013)
Top: L’Agence (2013)
Jeans: Acne (2007)
Boots: Helmut Lang (pre-2005)
Purse: Louis Vuitton (2001)

People have been running after me all week here, asking about that faux-ostrich-feather jacket. I think Stacy has enough fabric to make one more, so if you’re interested, you better hit her up now, because once it’s gone, it’s gone! Email her at info at stacylomman dot com.

I wore another Stacy-styled outfit yesterday, for a lunch, a museum visit and a dinner. During our wardrobe-therapy sessions, Stacy noticed a startling lack of basic layering pieces. So she took me out shopping to get things like a navy skirt. One of the great things about working with Stacy — in addition to being better dressed — is that I have a new way to fend off aggressive salespeople while browsing without her: “I have to ask my stylist,” I say.

What Wendy Wore Out and About
Jacket: Zang Toi (unsure of year, but it’s been a while!)
Top: Wolford (2013, thanks to Stacy)
Skirt: Donna Karan (2013, thanks to Stacy)
Shoes: Prada (2012)
Purse: Louis Vuitton (2001)
Necklace: My own design

I’d never worn that little jacket before, because I didn’t have anything to go with it. I felt like a new woman in this outfit! And I was happy that I happened to be a little dressed up for my encounter with Sam Waterston. It would be terrible to be dressed in sweats for an encounter with the world’s best eyebrows.

    Luff the outfits.

I go to the cinema every Sunday at 10 am- it is clean, cosy, newish and practically empty. The movie theatres you describe sound Beyond Revolting.

Sometimes it’s me and just a few other people….

I remember going to the movies in Los Angeles and you are right! It is a nice experience. People are so respectful and everyone stays until the end and they applaud at the credits. I guess it’s because everyone knows someone in the industry. I thought Life of Pi was a visually beautiful movie but it had two things that I hate most: open water and suffering animals. 🙁

Love the jacket, and the shoes! How exciting to have your picture taken with Sam Waterston when you’re looking so fabulous!

I dream of a theater experience like that. We have a fairly new theater in town, but it’s so small that they rarely have anything but the Big Big movies – and frequently not the ones I want to see. Most of the movies I’ve seen are like your experience… or I way overpay to go to the bigger theater which is a step up, but still crowded.

Some of the movie screens here are the size of TVs…

I guess that is one suburb benefit. We have good theaters including ones where you can order food and cute indie ones. We go on weeknights because we hate the chatty Cathy’s too.

Ooh, that’s a good idea, I need to go during the week.

Though I’ve done that a couple of times and sat in some empty, creepy, ugly theaters! LOL.

Loving the patent top and how gorg. you look in the “Sam” outfit. How great does RED look on you? Red… it’s not just for your lips anymore.

Movie theaters are the most disgusting places on earth! They’re even worse than riding coach.

Stacy’s outfit stylings are so creative and smart.

Theatres in LA are fantastic! We saw “Cars 2” with our boy at El Capitan. So very old Hollywood. Every seat was great.

    I.Love. That. Ostrich. Jacket. OMG.
