Glow-in-the-Dark Halston Dress Brightens My Day

August 28, 2011 by WendyB

My love for ’60s electric-dress designer Diana Dew and electric-dress wearer Tiger Morse means I’m always on the lookout for light-up clothes.  Thank you to gorgeous blogger Dawn Del Russo for tweeting Halston’s glow-in-the-dark dress.

It doesn’t turn on with a switch like a Diana Dew original, but it’s probably less dangerous. As Richie Berlin said in Edie: An American Girl:

“Diana Dew, the electric-dress designer for Paraphernalia, had those dresses where the tits would light up; or you could flash the crotch and that would go off. But they weren’t fool-proof, and one night two girls went totally off in Max’s! I mean, right off. They went BOOM! It’s true.”

Diana Dew in her own light-up dress, from the book Radical Rags. Click to purchase book.

Lighting up the fashion scene is good. Exploding? Not so much.

Speaking of exploding, The New York Observer reports Halston the brand is struggling again. A glow-in-the-dark dress would be the ultimate souvenir if the long-unlucky label is finally laid to rest.

Hi my dear-yes, everyone seems to have left Halston-I do love this glow in the dark dress though, very unique and a great style!! Take care and hope you stay safe with Irene on the way xxx

And of course, that big-ass battery pack probably didn’t help matters. Now, you wouldn’t even see the batteries!

Of course, batteries still blow up good. 😉

A glow-in-dark dress sounds sublime, though. Perfect for the all-night rave in Woodstock, so long as no one confuses you for a glowstick lol!

The glitter shoes actually don’t shed at all! I’ve had the problem with manufactured glitter shoes, but not my DIY since the glue coats it.

Ahh, I remember that paragraph well from Edie, my favourite book in the mid 1980s. Love seeing Diana Dew in her original dress! Probably not a dress to wear during Irene . . .

So much love for the light up clothing. So futuristic. I would so wear that light up dress.

I could get into wearing something that glows in the dark :-).

    Wow, light up dresses!
They both look amazing, but the latter looks alittle difficult to sit down in.
