Detective Munch Called Me From Lunch!

December 13, 2010 by WendyB

MrB has an extremely loud laugh that has been a movie-theater embarrassment to his family for many years. His son nicknamed him “Mr. Laugh-Head” after one particularly egregious episode. I have many times poked MrB in the side and hissed, “Enough!” “It’s not that funny!” “No one can hear the next line!”

I guess I can’t complain anymore (yes I can, but please play along) because MrB laughed so hard over a lunch at the restaurant Michael’s on Friday that a man came over from another table to find out what was so funny. “I wish I were having as much fun as you guys,” the man said. “I wish my wife were here right now,” MrB replied, “because she’s a big fan of yours.”

The man was Richard Belzer, aka Detective Munch from Law & Order SVU, whom I’ve mentioned in five blog posts:

  • Having a Wank
  • Keep Your Pants On
  • My Mind Is Blown
  • What Wendy Wore: Amazing Belzer
  • What Wendy Wore: Time Stands Still

Richard Belzer

Blissfully unaware that by “big fan” MrB really meant “scary stalker,” Richard Belzer said, “Let’s call her up!”

At that moment, I was sitting in my apartment — aka “the place where the AT&T signal goes to die” — feverishly working to get my new website ready for a January launch. My cellphone sat quietly beside me, oblivious to AT&T’s puny signal and, therefore, Richard Belzer’s attempt to reach me. I knew nothing until hours later when MrB called me on the landline to tell me to check my voicemail.

It probably worked out for the best. If the call had come through and I heard Richard Belzer live, I would have fainted/said something idiotic/yelled at MrB for hiring a bad Richard Belzer impersonator. In addition, I wouldn’t have this voicemail to treasure forever.

Click to hear my message from Richard Belzer!

Yep, that’s MrB laughing in the background. See what I mean about that laugh? While writing this, I poked MrB in his side and hissed, “You’re lucky I was able to hear Richard Belzer at all!”

Ladidah, indeed! What a neat, wonderful, totally unexpected happening. Wow! Way to go MrB! Way to go, bilingual Munch, alias Richard Belzer!

Now for my own circuitious, poignantLaw & Order moment. Somehow a really lovely-sounding woman found my blog in the past month or so. She’s the widow of Tom O’Rourke, an actor who played three different characters in all four series of the Law & Order franchise. Hereโ€™s Mr. Oโ€™Rourkeโ€™s Bio from IMDB. I feel quite honored that Marcy has now become my blog buddy.

Thats so great!!! And how nice of Mr.B ๐Ÿ™‚
I have the same laughing problem with Mr. ShoeGirl but his sounds more like a 12 year old girl. He gets real high pitched and loud… Oh well, if that’s his biggest flaw I’ll gladly take it.
