You’ll Love-Love This Necklace

September 7, 2009 by WendyB

Going to the U.S. Open finals? Order your sterling silver Wendy Brandes for Francis SmacEnroe tennis racquet necklace today and you’ll have it in time to wear it court-side … or TV-side. But act fast, because I have only one in stock.

I shot the necklace with real tennis balls to give you an idea of the size.

This is a BIG necklace. Here's a shot of it with real tennis balls.

Click here to see more images of the necklace, and here to see it on gorgeous blogger/client Denise.

Wouldn’t it be great to see this on happy, racquet-hurling tennis player Melanie Oudin? Click here for more pictures of her Melanie flinging her racquet with joy. I hope she makes it into the finals.

Melanie Oudin. Photo from usopen.org.

UPDATED TO ADD: Here’s Oudin in action.

I also hope she doesn’t get overwhelmed by the attention, a la Susan Boyle.

UPDATED SEPT. 9 TO ADD: Alas, Oudin is out. Someone needs to buy her this necklace as a consolation gift/reward for job well done. Hope to see you next year, Melanie!

Now, for all you people hitting my blog by searching for “Melanie Oudin’s sneakers,” there’s a good photo of her customized Adidas sneakers here. She designed them with her boyfriend, and he was the one who suggested putting the word “Believe” on the heels. Read about that here. There’s a photo of the boyfriend here. You can create your own customized sneaker here … the style is the mi Barricade V. And if you were here, with me now, we’d share a beer and I’d tell you the story about how “Believe!” was the annoying pet word of an annoying person and how I’ve been deliciously annoyed by that word all summer, so that I thought I was having a hallucination when I saw Oudin’s sneakers. If her next pair of sneakers says, “Bliss!” on them, I’ll really be freaked out, because that was the second most annoying pet word of the summer. In fact, the first person who customizes a pair of sneakers with “Bliss!” and sends me a photo of him/herself wearing them gets a beer. I’ll Fed Ex it to you if I have to.

UPDATED AGAIN TO ADD: Holy shizz! The player who really deserves the SmacEnroe is Serena Williams, who had a tantrum worthy of Johnny Mac himself during a match with Kim Clijsters on Saturday, September 12. First she broke her racquet. Later, she confronted a lineswoman. The chair umpire and the tournament referee gave Serena a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct on match point, and Clijsters won. Here are two clips. In the second, you can clearly hear Serena saying, “I didn’t say I would kill you!” Is it so wrong that I love Serena now?

Game, set and match – the perfect piece to accompany a Francis Roth polo dress to the US open.

You know the necklace and dress would be my look of choice court side.

PS 3 days without blogging, I was getting impatient!
