Oh Lady E Meets Hairy Mary

July 28, 2008 by WendyB

Gorgeous blogger Oh Lady E was in town on Friday. We had dinner at Novita, then hopped a cab to Orchard Street to see if my friend Evan was at his shop. He wasn’t, so we wandered across the street to Hairy Mary’s Vintage & Design, where we met the delightful Sharon. Sharon has some leather fringe necklaces that are going to be available on Etsy this week; I’ll let you know when they’re there. They’re made from the tassels that adorned nearly every ’80s handbag. A necklace would be a good way to add some fringe to your wardrobe without making a big commitment.

Fringe necklaces make Oh Lady E giggle

I passed up the necklaces to try on a giant feathered hat instead.

After Oh Lady E bought a belt, we went to “The Hat,” a Mexican place that’s been on the Lower East Side for over 20 years. I regaled Oh Lady E with tales of going there in the late ’80s when it was a very daring thing to do because the neighborhood was considered to be very dangerous. Now the old Hat is surrounded by boutiques, chic restaurants and upscale hotels. How things change! But a few things stay the same, and I’m happy to report that The Hat’s margaritas are as bad as ever. They’re strong though, so the joint was jumping.

After two of The Hat’s margaritas, Oh Lady E rejoined her companions and I went home to take two Tylenol. Come back soon, Oh Lady E!

The Hat, what a great name for a Mexican eatery! I’ll take one of those margaritas, right about now. Who cares if it’s bed time in Portland?

You cannot go wrong with feathered hats. Or feathered hair.
