A Tribute to YSL’s Mondrian Tribute

June 7, 2008 by WendyB

One of the most memorable pieces designed by the late Yves Saint Laurent was his Mondrian dress.

Since the original isn’t too easy to come by, you can pay tribute in Diane Von Furstenberg’s Mondian dress. The red version is on sale at Bergdorf Goodman for $251, down from $375.

Available at Bergdorf’s

If you prefer blue, that version is available at Net-a-Porter for $281.25

A Mondrian-esque Herve Leger dress is available on eBay. (Remember, kids, if you’re going to bid on eBay, please snipe!)

For more sporty types, Mondrian Nike Dunks are also available on eBay.

Kara Ross’s Mondrian bag costs 1675 pounds at Browns.

If you prefer to avoid long-term commitments, you can rent a vintage Andrea Pfister Mondrian bag from Bag Borrow or Steal. (Bag Borrow or Steal is the outfit that had the so-obvious-it-was-embarrassing product placement in the Sex and the City movie.)

Anthropologie has Mondrian knee socks on sale for $14.95.

Etsy is a good source for a variety of Mondrian-inspired, wearable items.

Skirt, cuff and pendant from Etsy

After you make your purchases, you can admire yourself in a Mondrian mirror.

If you just want to browse, Snap-Dragon has photo galleries that feature vintage Mondrian-inspired clothes and accessories. I love the Moschino jacket.

I would wear that jacket out for drinks … at the Mondrian hotel, of course. And maybe I’d wear this kind of Tribute with it.

I don’t know if it’s because I live in the south bronx and I’m surrounded by snearkerheads who will beat the living lights out of you if you step on their “fresh kicks” but the nike dunks look kinda awful =X I really like the stuff you found on etsy though and yum those YSL tribute sandals. I want thoseee, screw those nine west ones. And in reference to your past post about you in Marie Claire…gosh, now I have to go get me a copy. I wanna know what made you devastated [insert dramatic pause] then furious
