’60s-Style Patent Boots

October 24, 2007 by WendyB

Shopbop has lots of stylish patent leather accessories. I love patent. In my experience it holds up really well. My 12-year-old Prada Mary Janes are black patent. On Shopbop, these white patent boots caught my eye.

Paul & Joe Patent “Flea” Stretch Boot

If you’ve ever gone shopping for original ’60s go-go boots, you’ll know that wearable ones are very difficult to find, so you should snap these up. Admittedly, they’re $860, so you might want to buy the more “practical” black patent version. But if you you already have black boots, I would go wild and spring for the white pair. I bet you’ll still have them in 20 years. I think it’s so cute that the heels are gold (on the black pair, the heels are silver).

I will re-share a picture of me from Halloween 2005 dressed as a “Mod” in my Ossie Clark dress, genuine ’60s vinyl bubble hat and painful, plastic knockoff boots (the only boots I could find).

There are some beautiful patent coats out now. While I don’t think a trapeze top looks good on me, SOMEONE needs to buy this adorable Elie Tahari jacket. It is $605 at Bergdorf Goodman.

If I’m wearing patent shoes, I often carry my patent Prada Gaufre purse. But if I were wearing a patent coat, I personally would skip the shiny accessories. Of course, now that I’ve said this, I’m sure I will see a photo of someone who looks just beautiful with shiny coat, bag and shoes.

UPDATED TO ADD: Speaking of boots, look at the beautiful silver Tod’s on Shoewawa.

oh, oh, oh, those gold heels are simply magnificent!

i responded to your comment on my blog, and I don’t put you in the same place as Katie Holmes – she used to be on Dawson Creek, and now she is with a weirdo. One of my best friends married a guy 17 years her senior, but it works well for them. It just depends who you are:)

What is your Halloween costume this year?

I’m insulted! How do you know my husband isn’t a weirdo! LOL!
On a much more serious note, I don’t think we have a Halloween event to go to this year. I’m sad! Next year I am definitely throwing my own Halloween party. I’m annoyed at this lack of action. I have an Anne Boleyn costume already to go (pre-axe).

Oh no! Make it post-axe! Don’t they make portable guillotines?
Anyhow, I love the jacket but could also not pull it off. I just love Tahari. Everytime I see something I truly desire, it’s usually by him.

the jacket looks great! It looks very easy to pull off- just add skinny jeans and voila!

Love the Halloween outfit! You look sensational! I really should start planning mine… it’s only a few days away!
