Knocking on Doors, Plus the Week in Review

July 8, 2018 by WendyB

I was in beautiful Rhinebeck, N.Y., yesterday but never had a chance to visit my friends at Hummingbird Jewelers …

Hey @hummingbirdjewelersgallery I just missed you! #toolate #rhinebeckny #jewelrydesigner #jewelrystore

… because I was busy canvassing for local congressional candidate Antonio Delgado.

A lot of people excited to vote for @delgadoforcongress ! Had fun talking to them today. Also hope the woman whose impatiens keep disappearing figures out which woodland creature is eating them! 😹 #wesuspectbunnies #canvassing #getoutthevote #nofaso #votethemout #votedemocratic2018 #midtermelections #sorude #donteattheflowers

This was my first time knocking on voters’ doors, and it was easier than I anticipated. My canvassing partner and I — and close to 15 other canvassing pairs — were checking in with registered Democrats who were listed as having missed voting in some elections. We discovered that a few people had moved; two siblings had gone off to college; and, of course, a lot of people weren’t home on a nice Saturday in the summer. There was a hot-air balloon festival going on!

The folks we did talk to were all very excited to vote, and a couple of them amused us by thanking us for “our service.”

In case you missed what was on the blog earlier this holiday week, you didn’t miss much!

  • Monday, July 2: The beautiful Brooklyn Bridge, a Resistbot suggestion, and a way to complain about an immigration judge.
  • Wednesday, July 4: Recommended reading and proof that the Statue of Liberty is ready to throw hands.
  • Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram, where there’s a throwback photo to my traditional 4th of July outfit.

Yesterday was Wendy’s favorite excuse for another year of re-wearing this sailor-inspired outfit! Follow the link in our bio to see the full #4thofJuly outfit and to read about investing in pieces that last, aka #slowfashion.
