Wednesday’s Video: Vintage Clothing FAQ, Part 4

August 9, 2017 by WendyB

I’m continuing my series of FAQ videos about vintage clothing today with Part 4. Wondering how vintage clothing differs from resale or dead stock or consignment? I’ll tell you!

If you missed the earlier vintage FAQ videos, you can check them out now.

In today’s video, I’m wearing a Lolita Lempicka jacket that I got as part of a suit in 1995. You can see part of that jacket in this photo from 1997.

Here’s the suit’s skirt worn separately in 2012.

And — back to the jacket — here’s how I wore it earlier this summer.

What Wendy Wore
Jacket: Lolita Lempicka (from Allan & Suzi’s store, 1995)
Top: MaxMara (probably 2005)
Jeans: Madewell (2016)
Boots: Celine (2012)
Purse: Louis Vuitton (2001)

Action shot! This gives you a glimpse of the lacy soutache detail on the back of the jacket.

Another view of the back.

Another great video, Wendy! I realize I’ve been referring to some of my stuff as “thrifted” when it’s actually from a re-sale shop (I don’t think we actually use that term here for them).

I would like to see video posts on how to date vintage, re-sold, consignment or second-hand clothing. I use the Poodle, sometimes vintage label references (there are a few good sites for those), and eBay tips (how to spot fakes), but I’ve also picked up a lot of knowledge from reading about things like the Ladies’ Garment Workers Union (finding out when that org ceased in order to tell that a garment is pre-that date, for example). Also, things like metal zips vs. plastic ones, fabric content, even sizes! Just a thought. 🙂

Thanks for the enjoyable posts, and videos. Love that jacket, but 10 years for vintage? You’re making me feel old!! ;-P

I want to hug you for writing “Poodle!”
LOL! I like your idea for those tips too! I will work on it!

I’m really enjoying this series. I was just thinking of you because there is a photo feature in the Times called Superfans in the Front Row!! I’ll link to it, but maybe you already saw it. Sorry if that is bad blog etiquette? I know nothing.
