I planned to wear my traditional Moschino heart dress for Valentine’s dinner with MrB, only to realize at the last minute that the dress was at the cleaner’s. Alas!
I was thrown off by the clothing surprise, but, on the plus side, I was inspired to wear a vintage Donald Brooks piece that I first wore in 2008.
What Wendy Wore
Dress: Vintage Donald Brooks (acquired late 2007/early 2008)
Belt: Calvin Klein (2009)
Boots: Prada (2008)
I’m not sure I’ve worn this dress since 2008, though I wore it multiple times that year.
This dress is made from a very heavy woolen fabric, and, what with climate change, it’s hardly ever cold enough to put it on. Every time I’ve tried over the past few years, I had to change before I succumbed to heatstroke. Fortunately, it was plenty cold this Valentine’s Day, but, even so, I probably could have gone without a coat thanks to this dress. I’ll have to keep this one in mind if I’m ever invited to a cocktail party at an ice hotel.
For warmer weather, wouldn’t this 1980s Yves Saint Laurent dress be perfect for Valentine’s?
I was browsing the vintage dresses on 1stdibs.com when I saw that dress and thought, “That’s romantic.” Then I clicked to see the back view and … ta da!
What a stellar butt bow! YSL really had a knack for the butt-bow look. I still love this purple one the most.
