Who Wore It Best: Maleficent or …

June 11, 2014 by WendyB

Angelina Jolie wears an impressive set of horns in her starring role in Maleficent, Disney’s retelling of the Sleeping Beauty story.

maleficent

The horned headpiece originated in the 1959 animated Sleeping Beauty movie.

But I kept thinking that someone else had worn some hot-looking horns relatively recently. And I was right! Here is a still of rapper Azealia Banks in her 2012 video for her song “Liquorice.”

Who wore it best? Angelina, Azealia, or rapper 50 Cent in the MaleFiftyCent spoof he did for Jimmy Kimmel’s show?

While you ponder that, you can check out this post from 2009 and enjoy the classic Dudley Moore/Peter Cook comedy routine called “Derek and Clive Get the Horn.”

You can also do a little jewelry shopping. My “sign of the horns” single stud earring was inspired last year by emojis and Eminem.

Sterling silver. Click to purchase for $35.

Or maybe you prefer listen to 2 Live Crew’s notorious 1989 No. 1 hit, “Me So Horny.”

I don’t want to toot my own horn (though I’m happy to have Louis Armstrong do it for me) …

… but I could do “horn” and “horny” references all night.

I’m going to quit before it gets out of control.

I think Angelina couldn’t be more perfect as Maleficent, dear Wendy…she looks so beautiful in this vaguely disturbing, “alien” way (kind of like she does in real life, too…but without the horns!!) 😉

I like to think the horns are really hers and that when we see her without them, she’s actually in disguise 😀

Ooh, so tempted by the “evil eye” earring for myself once my piercings are fully healed. Did you know that Ronnie James Dio (RIP, former lead singer of Black Sabbath post-Ozzy, and Rainbow, and of course Dio) claimed to have been the first to have associated that sign with rock & roll? His Italian grandmother did the sign to ward off the devil, and he started doing it in concerts. I’m a bit of a metalhead and saw that in a snipped of “Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey”, which is an excellent documentary by Sam Dunn.

BTW, to answer your question, my matte purple lippy is MAC (of course) and is called Heroine. The number is AA3.

    Cheers,
    Sheila

I have Heroine too! I wondered if that was it. It looks a little different on everyone. What new piercings do you have? I’m having the desire for two or three more 😉

Ronnie is right in my first post on that earring! http://wendybrandes.com/blog/2013/11/jewel-of-the-month-earring-inspired-by-eminem-and-mmlp2/

Have you worn it? I don’t remember seeing it on you. I love the colour, but it does stain my lips a strong magenta under that nice violet shade.

I got my 3rd hole in each ear, plus one up high in the cartilage in my right ear. I have another diamond for one hole, the opal I purchased for the cartilage, but that leaves one…

I don’t have as many Heroine pix as I thought! Here’s one night: http://wendybrandes.com/blog/2014/01/what-wendy-wore-vintage-versace-for-new-years-eve/

I want to have three in each lobe plus one cartilage one too!
