What Wendy Wore: Stacy Lomman to FGI’s Rising Star Awards

January 25, 2013 by WendyB

Fashion Group International held its annual Rising Star Awards luncheon yesterday at Cipriani. Last year, I won the Rising Star Award for fine jewelry, and designer/blogger/stylist Stacy Lomman was a finalist in the women’s apparel category. (To give you an idea of how prestigious the apparel category is: A past Rising Star winner in the apparel category is now Michelle Obama’s designer of choice, Jason Wu.) Stacy designed the red peplum dress I wore last January. You can see it in action in this video.

This time I wore a long faux-ostrich-feather vest from Stacy’s Fall 2012 collection; she wore a corset and skirt from her Spring 2013 collection.

As you can see, I convinced Stacy to stick her name tag in the usual place, even though the usual fabric wasn’t there.

The more Bellinis I drank, the funnier this got!

We were happy to see Yolanda and Amaia Torrubia of the fine-jewelry company Torrubia & Torrubia.

The Torrubias were finalists for the second year in a row.  When I won last year, they were so gracious and sincere in their congratulations to me. We have a lot in common, actually, because we all feel that great fine jewelry is about design and imagination. not just big, flashy gems in skimpy four-prong settings. I was rooting for the Torrubias, but this was Alexandra Mor‘s year. Next year will be your year, Torrubia ladies! Margaret Hayes, the president of FGI, emphasizes that many designers win after being in the running two, three or even four times. You gotta stay in it to win it!

Superstar hairstylist Julie Matos of Warren-Tricomi gave me a wild updo for the lunch.

She and I were initially inspired by rockabilly-style pompadours but quickly veered into Space Age/anime/Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura Pet Detective territory.

I loved it!

Here are the details for the whole look:

wendyvestWhat Wendy Wore
Sleeveless vest: On loan from Stacy Lomman
Dress: Versace (pre-2005)
Boots: Céline (from Bergdorf Goodman’s 2012 pre-holiday sale)
Jewelry: All my own designs
Hair: Julie Matos
Lip color: Tarte LipSurgence matte lip tint in Lively (great staying power!)

Stacy might have a hard time getting her vest back from me. It’s cold in New York right now but I was nice and warm with that piece on under my coat. I wouldn’t have thought a sleeveless vest was practical winter wear, but it is!

I wish you could have won two years in a row! But if not, I was really hoping the Torrubia sisters would get it. Beautiful things and sweet girls. You looked simply smashing last year AND this year!! You could be my muse 😉

Holy hell on a cracker, that is NOT a boring updo. It looks awesome. How long did it continue to say fuck you to gravity after the lunch? And how on earth did you coax it back down again?

It was standing up till I woke up this morning and washed it!

Whoa, you and Stacy look amazing! The vest with its stripy lining and zippered pointy boots all topped with that stupendous updo is transcendent, and the colour, texture, and silhouette of Stacy’s ensemble is outtasite – but what I love most is the warmth, support, and hijinks that permeate your friendship.

    • WendyB says

      January 25, 2013 at 7:46 pm

A hair compliment from you means a lot because you have the best hair evah!

    • WendyB says

      January 25, 2013 at 7:48 pm

Stacy was the one who realized those boots HAD to go with the vest. I don’t get dressed without her help anymore.
