What Wendy Wore: Feeling Like a Real Housewife

April 27, 2011 by WendyB

Tonight, MrB and I went to the Tribeca Film Festival cocktail party where I debuted my Patrick Kelly leopard-print dress toΒ great acclaim back in 2008. There was no way to top that sartorial experience, so I wore aΒ less-controversial flapper dress that I last wore in 2009. To be a little crazy, I skipped my usual red lipstick and went for major eye makeup instead.

Makeup: By Tennille Nielsen of Kimara Ahnert
Lipcolor: Plumped Up gloss in Twilight from Kimara Ahnert
Jacket: Zang Toi

Superstylist Julie Matos wasn’t available to beautify my hair, so I just left it a little wavy. I didn’t like the combo of wavy hair and neutral lipstick at all. It didn’t feel like me. Wavy hair + red lips = WendyB. Straight hair + neutral lips = WendyB. Wavy hair + neutral lips = Real Housewife.

What Wendy Wore While Feeling Like She Was a Real Housewife of Beverly Hills
Dress: Vintage (purchased 2007)
Shoes: Plein Sud (pre-2003; last seen at same event in 2010)
Purse: Whiting & Davis
Ring: My own Empress Wu design

On the plus side, we bumped into our gorgeous friends Norm and Jane and had an impromptu dinner with them at David Burke Kitchen. I highly recommend the salmon ham and eggs!

UPDATED TO ADD: MrB and I were wondering about an identical pair of ladies dressed like refugees from the ’80s that night. Questions answered!

Coincidentally enough, my captcha was “goodwife”

Your dress is sooooo lovely and beautiful on you. Does this event and the whole worst dressed thing make it a lot of pressure now? I can’t imagine how celebrities feel (especially the ones always on the list, ala Christina Aguilera)

OMG, I don’t know how people live when every time they go out of their house, people are going to get all crazily judge-y on their outfits, even if they’re just walking their dogs! You couldn’t pay me enough to make that worthwhile!

You’re gorgeous no matter your lip color or hairstyle, but I do miss the red lipstick.

I have to say, I am happy to skip the red lips for special outfits and if I have someone to do my eye makeup…but then I NEED my hair to look very “me.” With neither hair nor makeup feeling “me,” I felt kinda blah!

I can’t really see the housewife thing. Love this look although have to admit I prefer the red lipstick and curly hair look for myself too, it just feels stronger. The dress is amazing.

Well, you look amazing! That dress is so killer – I love a vintage gown! I think that, although the not-red lippy is just not you, you still look beautiful and classy, Wendy. (and I can just hear you saying, “I’m classy as all get-out, bitch!” Ha!)

    You rule.

Today’s Anti-spam word is Royalty! I\’d say how appropriate πŸ™‚ I like the dress on you a lot (I wouldn\’t ever have picked it for myself but it looks great on you) … I think your smile is what makes you – YOU … and since that IS there … you could wear any lip color or dress you would look beautiful.

I think you still look gorgeous regardless, but I agree the red lips are much more YOU. You do not, however, look like a housewife!

It’s a beautiful dress. I’ve been thinking for something like this to wear as my mother of the bride dress in September…wanting to avoid matronly and the reception will be in a old silent movie theatre. Any ideas where I might begin looking?

This dress was from Decades in LA but I do most of my vintage shopping online! eBay is where I buy from the most. Maybe you didn’t feel like “you,” but I like a new look from you every now and then.

Your hair is getting long, I LOVE it!

Great dress and shoes, and I love the lipcolor.

    Ok, gush over.
