A Tip of the Hat to Philip Treacy

January 5, 2011 by WendyB

I’m yearning for warmer weather in part because I miss wearing the vintage Philip Treacy hat I got last year. (It’s a good weight for spring, summer and fall, but too light for New York winters.) The hat has Andy Warhol’s portrait of Elizabeth Taylor on it and I love the way her lips match my Lasting Lust lip color.

Me and my Treacy hat. Click for original post.

Meanwhile, I just found Treacy’s Mick Jagger hat on 1stdibs.com. Mick’s got impressive lips too!

$450, via 1stdibs. Click to shop.

The lips on the Ingrid Bergman hat are fantastic too, but the hat has been sold.

Alas, it's no longer available. Photo via ThisNext.

Because of my recent nostalgia for my ’80s love of Liza Minnelli’s style, it would be hard to resist a Treacy Liza hat.

The Marilyn Monroe hat is the one that I remember best from when this collection first came out, but it’s my least favorite now. Marilyn images are too common — and too many starlets claim Marilyn is their idol.

Actress Megan Fox is gorgeous but I hate this tattoo. Click for source.

This Treacy hat isn’t from the Warhol collection …

$549 at Samuel's Hats. Click to shop.

… but I keep ogling it even though gorgeous blogger Jennine said I would look like Treacy-loving Boy George in it. Hmmm. Is looking like Boy George necessarily a bad thing? Would you tumble 4 me if I wore that blue hat?

I remember this hat being on sale at Liberty’s in London and to this day I kick myself for not snapping it up. Go Channel Boy George he’s not a bad person to have a style crush on…mine right now is Jessica Fletcher!!

The blue, the blue! Looking like Boy George is a very good thing, as long as you mean George with make-up and fabulous hat. He lives around us and looks just as rough as anyone else first thing in the morning (I say having only celeb spotted him once. But he DID look rough).

Miss J is really feeling ANYTHING Elizabeth Taylor right now as she’s reading “Furious Love” about the Taylor/Burton scandal. Miss J doesn’t understand tattooing at all, especially putting one’s idol on oneself. Be YOURSELF, bitches!

Boy George is awesome! You probably don’t want to look like him though. I find hats very challenging on account of my stupid, curly hair but you look terrific!

I love all those hatsβ€”Treacy is such a talent.

How convenient and wonderful that your hat’s lips match your own! But maybe you’d better get a hat with purple lips for when you wear your “other” lipcolor!

I’d choose to emulate Elizabeth over Marilyn any day. Elizabeth has more talent, more jewels, more ex-husbands, and more authenticity.

I need a Derby hat. If only one of these would work!

#1) I am dying the way your Lasting Lust matches your chapeau….you look darling.

#2) The blue color is very snappy

#3) When you asked about Tumbling I presumed you were starting a Tumblr blog. How sad is that? Technology transcending Boy George, very much a part of my musical upbringing, that is more than bizarre.

#4) I love every hat that you showed.

    Grins & Giggles Miss Wendy!

I am loving the blue hat though it wouldn’t suit my face. The colour just appeals to me.

Curiously enough, the Mick hat looks more like Alice Cooper to me . . . And the Boy George? Do you really want to hurt me? πŸ˜‰

Yep, I like how the lipstick matches, too, WendyB. What a fine array of hats!

I must have missed what happened to your shoulder, Kate, but I am thrilled to hear about your progress. How is it all impacting your getting to know your iMac?

Please stop by on Thursday, after midnight on Wednesday even, at Portland Oregon Daily Photo to see my first ever embedded video. It shows my younger son Leland bouldering at The Circuit in Portland, Oregon, as filmed by his older brother Lamont, who also boulders.

Oh yes, that blue hat is a must. I would love to add it my collection but that would involve robbing the paper boy. Or something.

    Very cool hats!

Wendy, darling, I understand the need for you to have a spam filter. Your site is incredibly popular (1000000x more popular than most of the rest of us πŸ™‚ ) and you seem to have a really bad spam problem. I get the normal you-know-what enlargement, fake bags, replica watch type spam, about 10-15 a day, and it only takes a sec for me to delete, SO I can get away with not having a spam filter. But I totally, completely understand that some people (although not ALL) *need* to have a spam filter. I was addressing those, like myself, don’t have an actual problem. Also, your WV is really easy to read and uses proper words – the Blogger spam filter is hard to read and uses strange words which I find really annoying! πŸ˜‰

I always feel randomized word verifications are more effective, but I like my plug-in because I get to think of words that entertain me. Blogger did get really bad — I’ve noticed that. Also I hate the type of word verification where you write your comment, click enter and THEN it gives you the word verification which you have to enter and click again to post. What’s up with that? Can’t it all be on one page so there’s just one click to post? Sheesh.

It’s the “smart” spam that’s really clogging things up though.

On your note of Gwen’s devotion to red lipstick, yours is stellar! Next step to match Elizabeth Taylor: blue eyeshadow. Please post a picture if you ever do this.

And looking like Boy George=DEFINITELY a positive thing.
