Minx Manicures: Not for the Antisocial

November 23, 2009 by WendyB

I’m wearing a very special dress for a very special occasion tomorrow. While I was combing out my faux-ny tail late last night (it’s not a party without a faux-ny tail!), I realized I urgently needed a metallic Minx manicure to complete the look. Minx is not a polish; it’s a film that’s applied with heat to the nails. It gives you a completely opaque look. Luckily, even at midnight, I was able to make a Minx appointment via Bliss Spa‘s website.

I’m very satisfied with the results.

silvernails.1_1024

Unluckily, I was unprepared to have numerous women run after me on the street, yelling, “Miss! Miss! Where did you get your nails done?” If I had known this was a side effect, I would have postponed my manicure to a day when I wasn’t feeling extremely grumpy. Consider yourself warned.

"F@#!! I'm not in the mood to talk about my nails!"

"F@#!! I'm not in the mood to talk about my nails!"

Minx can last a week or longer if applied and cared for properly, according to the company, leading a few magazines and blogs to write about the product as if it’s an iron-clad guarantee of the ultimate long-lasting manicure. I’m going to be realistic. My nails are weak and bend easily, I type all day, and I frequently use my nails to open necklace clasps and poison rings. That combination means traditional nail polish usually chips within a day or two. I won’t be surprised if I manage to damage the Minx sooner than I would hope. To me, the point of getting it was the look, not a long-term commitment, though I would love for it to last forever.

When I do something, I go all out, so I got a Minx pedicure too. If you’re easily disgusted by feet, stop reading now.

Are the anti-foot people gone?

Is it safe to proceed?

Oh, screw them. I’m not in the mood to deal with anyone’s anatomical phobia. That said, I don’t think this photo of my foot with a Sonia Rykiel purse is going to launch my foot-modeling career.

Matchy-matchy.

Matchy-matchy.

I didn’t deliberately match my toes to my bag. It was a happy accident!

Holy F@#! I love it! I always wondered if the chrome look was truly possible! The directory showed a bunch of salons near Richmond, VA. I’m definitely going to try this soon! Let us know how long it lasts because I’m hell on my nails as well… so bad that I usually don’t even bother with painting them.

Thanks for the post! Had no idea this was available!

That is AWESOME!! It’s funny, I’ve been wanting a manicure for a while now (I’ve never had one) and this might be the ticket. I just have to check how much it costs.

That is the coolest mani-pedi I’ve seen in a while. The french tip reigns supreme where I’m from.

I’ve heard a lot about Minx from NY pee-po. Is it all I dreamed? How is it holding up?

Too cool! You can be Lady Deathstrike, from the X-men movie. The swearing rings are a nice touch.

Also I refuse to believe you didn’t purposefully match your toenails to your bag. That’s too much of a happy coincidence and I’m a skeptic. You are lying, Wendy, I know it.

Wendy, those are killer nails! I love that a) you have short nails and b) that awesome metallic. The toes are so fun, too.

Heh, having just finished a very cranky-pants day, I can only imagine the salty language you were tempted to use. Nice use of the rings!

    November 24, 2009 at 5:52 am

I love those shiny nails they’re amazing.

I am also unlikely to chase you down the street for them, but I am unlikely to chase anyone anywhere for anything that isn’t cake, besides, I don’t speak to strangers.

I would probably just go home and google “shiny nails” and all possible permutations till I found out where to get it.

I love the minx manicure! It’s so unexpected and fun.
I’d probably chip mine in less than a day or two as well. Polish never lasts long on my nails.

Your toes are awesome! Just as well it’s cold and you’re not wearing open-toed shoes outside (are you?), or you really would have had people asking about your nails!

I wanted to try the Minx with the look you were aiming for with the 50 cent whistle…Katy Perry did it, full encrusted rhinestones on each nail..sickalicious!!!

AND – we are totally B-Bag Bubblegum Sista’s Darling!! Loves it! (Tell Henry pink totally works for him 😉

    XOXO

  45. La Beletter Rouge says

    November 24, 2009 at 4:02 pm

ooh! This weasel needs Minx. Very cool. I saw them ladies on the Housewives of Atlanta getting them done. But now that you have them I MUST have them. However it is the rings that really make the look, not the other way round.

  46. Iron Chic says

    November 24, 2009 at 4:14 pm

Yeah, I can’t keep a manicure either…if I so much as have a hangnail, it could catch on a delicate dress.
And I am so neurotic that if I get one chip, the whole thing has to come off. Sicko!
People that get grossed out by feet are babies, god!

  47. Alya says

    November 24, 2009 at 4:20 pm

The girls are all about the Minx over here (in Kuwait)! I’ve seen the gold and silver ones on just about everyone.

But it really is eye catching. And looks like chrome wheels on nails.

I would have tackled you to find out where you got your nails done.

Also I dont like feet but I had to see what it your pedi looked like and I am so glad I did because it totally rocks.

Way to go all out dear!
