We Were Both Flattered by This

February 10, 2008 by WendyB

Town car driver, about WendyB: “Mr. Paul, is that your daughter?”

Husband: “No, that’s my wife.”

Driver: “No, Mr. Paul, that’s your daughter, right?”

Husband: “No, not my daughter. Wife.”

Driver: “Mr. Paul, congratulations. You very lucky man!”

I came to your site to ask you if you OD’d on latex legs on tonight’s Grammy awards show, and I found this splendid photo of you two who are blessed beyond measure. I’m so happy for you, WendyB and Paul.

Ha! If you move to L.A., people won’t even bat an eye. But then you’ll miss out on the compliments.

Dr K, we were somewhere in Scandinavia when this was taken but I can’t even narrow it down to a country. PAD, I was in LA when my two-years-younger-than-me stepdaughter was having a party. she was introducing me to everyone as ‘mom’ and they were all passing out. I was deeply disappointed that Angelenos would express such shock.

I love your chin resting on Paul’s shoulder. There’s an obvious love and comfort there. And – major bonus – you don’t appear to have any lipstick on your teeth.

But of course the car driver is right. In a complete opposite moment, I travelled to Australia last year with my dad. I was in a shop buying perfume for myself and my step-mom and got mistaken by the shop manager as my dad’s “companion”. PS I love the Gloriana pendant. It’s a fitting tribute to an incredible ruler.

Yes! I finally scored me a Wendy Brandes first-link-listed with the following search: “latex empress butt jewelry.”

    I’m so proud!

Also, in my attempt to find you via a sassy string of search terms, I discovered the blog of one Latex Lady. The blog is really well-written, with thoughful insights and clear prose, but the content! Oh holy mother of Christendom!

Our lady wears a latex burqa and runs a definitely-not-family-or-work-friendly blog that details all kinds of activities, including activities that involve her son’s girlfriend, two hours, and a rubber wand.

    So funny!
This happened to my husband and me when we went to buy a car several years ago and the salesman asked if I wanted to test drive it “without Daddy.”

  41. WendyB says

    February 13, 2008 at 9:33 am

Miss J, lately I wear either MAC’s Longlasting Lust or Kimara Anhert’s Berry Freeze. The second one is more of a local brand, I think.
Deirdre, the Latex Lady sounds like quite a find. Exactly how much time did you spend on that site?
Iheart, that’s FABULOUS! Ha ha! Where you in shock? Whenever I hear something like that, it always takes me a few seconds to process the info.
Msciorti, that’s hilarious. Especially since the guy IS a recent immigrant from Russia. He’s probably so glad he got here.
Bronwyn and Jello, I agree that it’s much less pleasant to be mistaken for your real dad’s companion. Ew.
Jennine, the correct response would be, “He’s not my son, he’s my gigolo.” But you have to say it the way Karen Walker’s short, queeny frenemy said it on Will and Grace: “Jeeeeee-gah-lo.”
