"Nothing"

September 16, 2007 by WendyB

For those of you who are too young to have seen Brooke Shields in the 1980 Calvin Klein TV ad that caused a scandal, here it is.

UPDATED TO ADD: How thrilled am I that the Manolo enjoyed this too! The Manolo’s shoe blog was the first fashion blog I ever read. I am delighted he started a new one for “gently making fun of the famous.” Check it out here.

If *that* caused a scandal, image what Tom Ford’s latest ads would have done!

I remember going to Rio in the 80’s and people exclaiming…
Brook Shields..what’s all the fuss about? Since many Brazilian girls are brunettes with bushy eyebrows…
Funny how a different culture perceives our icons..

wow i’m still trying to figure out what is so scandalous about that ad? times have certainly changed..

@Shaz, the idea that perhaps she wasn’t wearing any underwear. Quite different from now, when people not only don’t wear underwear but make sure everyone can get a good picture of what they should be hiding!

I bet Brooke never knew how much of an underwear-less trendsetter she would become. I still think it’s a little risque…

@ IYF, I think it’s still provocative in a more interesting way than all the upskirt photos are!
