Happy #ShadyXV Day

November 24, 2014 by WendyB

One of the good things about being a jewelry designer is that I always have the appropriate accessories for any occasion, such as today’s official release of Shady XV, the double album celebrating 15 years of Eminem’s Shady Records label.  Let me take a selfie ….

Sorry, Stans! These necklaces aren’t for sale.

That photo was inspired by my gorgeous rapper friend Gangsta Boo, seen here wearing the nameplate necklace I made her.

One of my favorite pictures of any of my designs!

As Boo said to i-D magazine this summer:

“I’ve had to go through certain things where I’ve had to push a titty up or two to get things done, whereas a man doesn’t. He can just scratch his balls and shake hands with a CEO to get his deal signed.”

In those two sentences, Boo summed up my 16 years of work experience in the corporate world, except I had to do a lot more nodding and smiling than boob flashing.

Despite my track record of hiring, training and promoting women during those shitty corporate years, I’m probably a bad feminist, according to some standards. After all, I’m buying Eminem’s latest album mere months after irritating the great Gloria Steinem! But, fuck it, I’ve got to be un-PC me.  My attitude is spelled out on the t-shirt I got at the National Portrait Gallery in London a couple of years ago.

Elizabeth I and Shady XV. I like ’em both. (But I’d like that souvenir t-shirt better if it had a plunging neckline!)

Copped the Eminem album too (and hopefully a Detroit VS. Everybody tshirt when I visit for Thanksgiving) but I consider myself a feminist. And I agree with Boo on many levels, being a woman in tech requires a thick skin, to say the least.

And I heart that t-shirt. But I have to disagree – it doesn’t need a plunging neckline – just wear it with leather pants or a miniskirt. And some bad bitch boots.

Okay, but can I cut off the sleeves at least? 😀

That quote of Elizabeth’s was on so many things, like postcards and keychains etc and now I wish I got all of them. She cracks me up. My favorite story is probably the height story here http://wendybrandes.com/blog/2007/10/where-be-your-gibes-now/

Cut the sleeves off and slice up the sides punk style! And Elizabeth seems like the original punk rock queen.

Now you make you want to take pics for the Interwebs of my chopped up Jay-Z shirt, and my Eagles and Waylon Jennings shirts too (diverse musical tastes).

Please do! I like altered t-shirts!

You’re good to go. I just checked the National Portrait Gallery’s web site and they also carry a tote bag with the quote! I may have to curate my refrigerator magnet collection again when this must-have addition arrives.

      Woot!

And doesn’t it make it so much more awesome that Liz I was Anne Boleyn’s daughter? Take that, Henry!

    Hey Lady B,

Boobalicious is an understatement ! I thought it was some fab porn stars “real boobs” until I recognized the top. You go girl.

As aways “Spot on” with everything.
