What Wendy Wore: Gareth Pugh for Our Anniversary

July 25, 2016 by WendyB

MrB and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary on Friday by having dinner at Osteria al Doge and going to see Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.

We highly recommend both experiences!

I had considered re-wearing white leather halter that was part of my 2001 post-wedding-gown party outfit, but I had that thought in the middle of the night and didn’t remember it when I woke up. After we came home from the theater, I thought, “Oh yeah, now I know what I was going to wear.” Maybe next year!

I wound up debuting a crazy shorts/skirt thing by English designer Gareth Pugh that I got this winter. I’ve always been interested in his avant-garde work, so when I saw something affordable on The RealReal consignment site, I went for it. Then I spent a couple of months wondering what top would go with it. In the end, I threw together this outfit 10 minutes before we left for dinner.

I swear I wasn’t trying to beat Angelina Jolie at her leg game by working a high slit to death. This garment has no sides at all, as you can see when I give it a twirl.

Whee!

This mini video from Boomerang gives you a clearer view of the side.

Pugh called this style his “Joan of Arc” shorts. “Tarzan of the Jungle”* might have been better, because I felt like I was wearing a very formal loincloth. Also … shorts? They seemed like shorts when I first tried this on, but once I started moving around, they definitely inched up into hot pants territory. But hey! It was a very hot night and I was definitely well-ventilated!

*Why did anyone think it was a good idea to make a Tarzan movie in this day and age?

Hot legs! Okay, now I’m singing that song.

I love a head to toe white ensemble. Always.
