My Best Dressed at the 2019 Oscars Is …

February 25, 2019 by WendyB

Why are celebrities making things so easy for me lately? At the Grammys earlier this month, it was instantly obvious that Cardi B was the winner of my prestigious Best Dressed/Wear What You Want combo award. At least she took a while to make her appearance, though! At last night’s Oscars, one of the first people to hit the red carpet was Billy Porter from the FX show Pose, and I knew that this was the fashion winner for the night.

Porter was majestic in a velvet tuxedo gown by designer Christian Siriano. Yes, that’s the same Christian Siriano I mentioned a dozen or so times last week in my video about celebrities who claim they’re being discriminated against because designers aren’t throwing enough free dresses their way. As you can see from Porter’s Oscar look, Siriano is a designer who goes out of his way to work with all shapes, sizes, genders, etc. … so if you haven’t spoken to Christian, you haven’t even tried to get yourself a dress. Haven’t seen my truth-telling video about awards-show freebies yet? Check it out right now.

Billy Porter’s flair for fashion isn’t dependent on Siriano, however. He slayed the Golden Globes red carpet last month in a look by designer Randi Rahm that took six months to make.

Here’s an interesting fact from Harper’s Bazaar, which reported that Siriano designed Porter’s dress in a week. Yet again, I’m going to refer you to my video from last Wednesday, about celebrities and free awards-show dresses: Not everyone has the resources to do a major job like this in such a short time!

Porter also slipped into a more manageable pair of flowing pants to do a bit of red-carpet hosting. I can’t find a great view of those, but you can see the silhouette here as he interviews Glenn Close, who dressed as an Oscar but — alas — didn’t win one.

I gasped when I saw that gown. It’s so gorgeous! I love everything about it, especially the navy velvet and the matching slacks that Mr. Porter wore later.

I KNEW that was going to be it for your fave the minute I saw it! He seemed to have swapped out the skirt part of the outfit for wide black palazzo-style pants later on in the red carpet coverage that I saw – they were swooshing all over the place!

Loved all the ginormous dresses last night! So much pouf!

So many people were freaking out over all the pouf, but you and I know that pouf = good!
