Celebrate World Emoji Day AND Made in America Week

July 17, 2017 by WendyB

It’s World Emoji Day and Made in America Week, so why not mark both occasions by buying some of my emoji jewelry designs, all made in New York City? I started making emoji jewelry in silver and 18K gold in April 2013, and now I have over 50 styles to choose from.

That’s a lot of jewelry to look at, so here are two suggestions to start with. If you’re a fan of chokers, go for my newest emoji design — the lips necklace with an adjustable chain. It can be worn at the normal 16″ chain length or tightened to be a 14″ choker. The silver version is $70. The 18K yellow and 18K rose gold lips have a little diamond “tooth” set in them, and they’re $350.

Kiss kiss!

My most popular design is still the single middle finger stud earring. People can’t get enough of that one! A single silver earring is $35. You can special order the 18K yellow (or 18K rose) gold version for $225.

Take that, world!

The middle finger also comes inĀ ring and necklace styles.

I came out with my middle finger emoji earring years before the official middle finger emoji hit everyone’s phone. I still think I have the better design! Read about who inspired it here. Also, if you’re wondering why today is World Emoji Day, I explained that in 2015. As for Made in America week — unlike the cheap-ass, hypocritical Trumps who are trying to come off as being all patriotic with this — I honestly do make nearly all of my jewelry in the U.S., even though doing production here is infinitely more expensive than doing it overseas. The price issue is stressful, to be honest, especially when it comes to jewelry that has hundreds of small stones set in it. I’ve seen designers who manufacture in Hong Kong price gem-heavy jewelry for retail for less than it costs me to set the stones in an equivalent piece! I’m not exaggerating. People who manufacture overseas can literally markup their work for retail sale and still charge less than I spend just for the labor of gem setting, which means I haven’t yet added in the cost of the gems, the gold, the wax model, the casting, design work, finishing, or any kind of markup at all. Mull that over for a bit! I think about it every day.
