What Wendy Wore: A Little Black Dress From 1989

May 9, 2017 by WendyB

As promised, here’s another one of Eryn’s fancy outfit photo shoots.  The centerpiece is the shiny, black cocktail dress I wore to my 1989 college graduation dance. I found the dress hanging around my parents’ house in 2013. At the time, I figured I would to ask Jean from Ghost Tailor if she could let it out at the top in order to give me some breathing room. She was successful! Here’s how the dress looks now.

Like the sign in the photo above says, there’s only one way to wear this dress, and that’s with tall boots and a sense of humor.

I’m keeping this dress for sentimental reasons. Normally, I don’t like to keep clothes that I’m not going to wear, but there are definitely exceptions to the rule and this is one of them. I have so few of my original clothes left from the ’80s. Who knows … it might make a good Halloween costume some day.

Oh, and here’s how the dress looked in 1989.

This tiny picture is the best I can offer from ’89.

Come back tomorrow for a YouTube video in which I talk about the dress and other components of this just-for-a-photo-shoot look.

It’s funny to take photos in NYC until a big truck rolls up on you!

I think the dress looks nice! I know it looks very 80s and dated, but why is that such a bad thing?

I agree, it’s kinda fun to look at! The fabric feels a little creepy though! 🙂
