Last week, hundreds of people — including me — went to New York’s senators’ offices despite driving rain.
Both Chuck Schumer’s and Kirsten Gillibrand’s staff came down to meet with organizers and acknowledge the crowd. My senators are Democrats, so you might be thinking, “What’s the use?” Well, as activist leaders point out, your elected officials can always work harder for you. Let them know you’re a very demanding boss! Schumer, for instance, has opposed many Trump nominees but caved on four of them — having apparently failed to learn the lesson of eight years of hard-core Republican obstructionism that resulted in President Obama being unable to fill a Supreme Court seat, among other things. NO APPEASEMENT is acceptable! History has taught us that negotiating with tyrants is only a winning move for the tyrants.
If you’re in New York, here’s the information about the lunchtime rally. If lunchtime doesn’t work for you, go to this 6 p.m. rally outside Schumer’s Brooklyn apartment building. That will be different!
