Jewel of the Month: Emoji-Inspired Meat Cleaver Single Earring

March 14, 2014 by WendyB

I gave you a peek at my emoji-inspired meat cleaver earring last year. A foodie friend had seen my pig studs and asked for a special mix-and-match pair (once again, vegetarians, look away!)

Now the cleaver is a permanent part of my WENDYB by Wendy Brandes diffusion line, so I’m making it March’s Jewel of the Month.

Sterling silver. $35 for a single. $70 for a pair. Click to shop.

You’re welcome to buy two of these on my website to create your own pair, but I am selling it as a single earring. I frequently wore single earrings in the ’80s, and my fond memories of that time led me to add single studs to my line in 2012. Refinery29 recently included single earrings in a piece called “15 Accessory Trends To Update Your Look,” adding on Facebook that these trends “are about to be EVERYWHERE.” The earrings shown in the Refinery29 slideshow were all big, statement earrings, and I’ve got that option too. My single Cleopatra earring is 4 1/2″ long.

This model is wearing a pair, but now you can buy one sterling-silver Cleopatra earring for $225. Click to purchase.

But if you feel like you need to take some baby steps before going so big, I’ve got more than two dozen single studs to choose from, not to mention mix-and-match pairs like the pig and cleaver.

Sterling silver. $70 for the pair. Click to shop.

Even though there is no meat-cleaver emoji (yet!) I consider this emoji-inspired because it fits so nicely into the collection of stud earrings that started with emoji designs. After I’d done actual emoji — such as the okay sign, peace sign and thumbs up — I started creating designs of what SHOULD be emoji. Those include the Vulcan salute, sign of the horns, and, most importantly, the middle finger. WHY IS THERE NO MIDDLE FINGER EMOJI?! I keep pleading with emoji HQ to use my Eminem-inspired middle-finger design. Alas, emoji HQ hasn’t heard me yet, but I’ve heard my customers. Folks have been asking for middle-finger necklaces and rings, and I’ve done both. The necklace is on my website now.

Jewelry designed by Wendy Brandes and photographed by John Muggenborg.

Sterling silver. $50. Click to shop.

The ring will be coming soon! Every time I get one in for a special request, it’s had to go out immediately, so I haven’t had time to get a professional picture of it. But I will definitely get a photograph of the one I have coming up. Stay tuned!
