What Wendy Wore: Mermaid Style by Zang Toi

September 13, 2013 by WendyB

My designing friend Zang Toi moved into a gorgeous new showroom space in New York City and he had a post-New York Fashion Week party to celebrate. Earlier in the summer, Zang had convinced me to try on an emerald-green,  paillette-covered, high/low mermaid skirt that he had saved from his Spring 2004 collection.

The skirt on the runway in 2004.

I was very amused by the skirt, but I told Zang I needed to wear more with it than a bikini top and a bunch of beads. He wound up making me a paillette-covered purple halter and instructed me to wear the outfit to his showroom party. Naturally, I obeyed.

Perched in the window at Zang’s new place.

I’m a big fan of the purple and green color combination. I’ve used it in two of my favorite jewelry designs: my Marie Antoinette ring …

… and my Marie Antoinette earrings.

I got both of these designs out of the vault to wear with Zang’s outfit. Here’s a better look at the whole ensemble.

The long, sparkly, noisy train of the skirt was a hit with all the animals in my house. FitzRoy the cat pounced on it.

Gigi the dog photobombed it.

I’ve decided this makes a good lounging-around outfit.

I’m also considering dressing as a mermaid for Halloween. I’m still not willing to wear a bikini top on the streets of Manhattan, but I’m definitely up for a green wig.

Wow that is an amazing skirt! I love the top too & while I’m not a fan of purple anymore (long story), it does look fantastic together & I am a huge fan of your gorgeous purple & green jewelry pieces! Lounging around but you need a fancy cocktail & bonbons to go with it! LOL! XXX

Does she know there’s a Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen? Maybe you shouldn’t tell her or she’ll want to move there!

So many people try to rush you into surgery!

And guess what? Just spoke to a friend who had a hysterectomy for fibroids and she felt great for two weeks …. then came down with a hospital infection that she’s still fighting months later!

Purple and green is my favourite colour combination EVA so I’m all over this look. I always think purple and green look a little evil together. Maybe thats why I like it….

      September 14, 2013 at 10:41 pm

I like the idea of evil colors.

You look fabulous, really stunning. I was disappointed when I saw the Little Mermaid Statue in Copenhagen, it’s tiny, I thought it was going to be like the Statue of Liberty!

    • WendyB says

      September 16, 2013 at 10:01 am

Oh, yes, she’s a tiny little thing.

It should be called the Little Little Mermaid Statue!

Wow. Just WOW! Gotta say, the ring outshines the outfit, and it’s quite an outfit. Earrings are astonishing, but the ring is just the end.
    Sigh.
