Fashion Repeats Itself: Ferragamo Now and Versace Then

July 7, 2011 by WendyB

I guess houndstooth checks and glen plaids are never out of fashion, but seeing checks and plaids on practically everything in Ferragamo’s Fifth Avenue store made me think of Versace from a few years back.

Ferragamo purse and shoes.

Ferragamo everything.

I think it was about 2004 or 2005 when Versace had a big plaid moment that so entranced me that I got a pair of pants AND a dress in the same pattern.

The pants, worn this year. Click for original post.

Versace dress in 2010. Click for original post.

After I saw the new Ferragamo pieces, I briefly imagined myself wearing my old Versace dress over the matching pants, and then adding the Ferragamo coat, bag and shoes.  I’d definitely look mad, plaid and dangerous to know! But I bet Bill Cunningham would love it.

UPDATED AUG. 1, 2011, TO ADD: I’m sure it’s a case of “great minds think alike” but let’s all pretend that Lady Gaga read this post and it inspired this Ferragamo-houndstooth-overdose outfit!

I had some glen plaid pants and a houndstooth jacket that I donated a while back. Now I am kicking myself. They were not as fab as your dress and pants.

Awesome plaid-y goodness! I guess I can haul out my trusty houndstooth skirt again (not that I was saving it).

    Those pants are fab, Wendy!

You look great in plaid. Seems as though most looks return over time. That’s why it’s so difficult to downsize!

I love a plaid skirt! And I’m glad to know that I’m in good company re: multiple garments of the same fabric. Maybe we should start a club?

Those trousers are divine! I think it just comes and goes. I remember walking around the mall (really the Mall!?!) and seeing red buffalo plaid on everything from shirts, skirt, dresses – even shoes!

Looking at the post reminded me I have a Max Mara set I have never worn.

X-D I love the “old Versace dress over the matching pants, and then adding the Ferragamo coat, bag and shoes” description. Sounds awful 😛 But I love the dress on it’s own. It’s so chic and well made. 🙂

That would be one hell of a way to show your checkered past.
