Foot Fetish: Hi-Wedge Sneakers

November 14, 2010 by WendyB

I’ve wanted a pair of high-wedge sneakers for a long time. Last year, I tried on these happy-looking See by Chloe sneakers, but they didn’t fit.

Click for my post.

I noticed this pair by Ash on Saks.com last weekend.

$200 on Saks.com. Click to shop.

They don’t make my heart sing so much that I want to order them, but if I wandered by them in a store, I’d probably stop to try them on. Anyway, I’ve already made a “shoes that shouldn’t have heels” purchase this year. I’m looking forward to wearing my high-heel, over-the-knee Tommy Hilfiger duck boots soon.

While writing this post, I had a vague thought: “Isn’t there a song about high-heeled sneakers?” That turned out to be an understatement (underthought?)! Blues singer Tommy Tucker’s 1964 song Hi-Heel Sneakers has been recorded by over 200 artists, according to Wikipedia. Elvis, Janis Joplin, my almost-husband Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones and Stevie Wonder are just a few examples. I’ve selected some from YouTube. Tell me you don’t want high-heeled sneakers after listening to this song repeatedly. It’s hypnotic. Forget the wedges … bring on the sneaker stilettos!

I think there’s also a Steely Dan song that has a reference to high heel sneakers. Why do I know these things? I dunno–my inner nerd I guess.

You know, I actually prefer the black ones – I might actually even like them (which as you know is not a usual occurrence what with my sneaker hate-on).

I was looking at wedge sneakers a while back but never found any that thrilled me enough to buy either. I haven’t ruled it out yet, I’m just waiting.

I like sneaker wedges, and eventually caved in and got one. . but I realise, as with all ‘funky’ buys, they are not always used.

I loved my cheapo high heeled sneakers I bought a couple of years back but they’re cream and just completely battered now. I really don’t like the Ash ones but love those top ones!

I own a pair of those inspired sneakers wedges from ash, they were open toes though, and besides the height, they are very comfortable, you should try the ash pair dear, perhaps they look better in person and fit better 🙂

Oh the duck boots…can’t wait to see them! I have a pair of Tsubo sneaker wedges that I adore, but they’re not quite as high as the See by Chloe ones here.

The Sees are adorable but I love the black ones! And I have heard that Tucker song, I just had no idea he was saying high heel sneakers, thought it was just “put on your high heels mumble mumble..”

I love the Ash ones but I know I’d be tumbling over in them. Big, clumsy, topheavy girls in heels are a recipe for disaster.

I can think of a few songs with “high-heeled sneakers” in the lyrics. One in particular also cites “wighats!”

I didn’t know you’d actually bought those crazy duck boots. I can’t frigging wait to see what you do with those!

I rarely like sneakers with heels, but these ones by Chloe are nice.

    I like the songs.

    Peace and love!
