Half an Outfit Post: MAC Violetta, Vintage Shades

May 3, 2010 by WendyB

I’m still searching for the perfect purple lipstick.  Violetta by MAC looks a little pink, doesn’t it?

Eating a lobster salad.

Sunglasses: Vintage, from Frock (2010)
T-shirt: Splendid
Necklace: Mud Flap Jill in yellow gold
Lip color: Violetta by MAC

Gorgeous blogger Stacy of taffetadarlings took that picture while we were having lunch at Amaranth last week.  I like the way she got the name of the restaurant upside down on the table.  After lunch, we looked in some store windows. Roberto Cavalli had a denim dress, which I photographed to add to my collection of head-to-toe denim looks.

Denim is everywhere.

Neither Stacy nor I cared for the embellishment on the top.  Also, the wash and seams of this dress reminded me of the fantastic, floor-length denim skirt with a TRAIN that I had years ago. I never wore it, decided to be practical and shortened it to above the knee. I’ve been regretting that decision ever since because I sure as hell would wear a denim skirt with a train now. I could almost cry thinking of such fashion foolishness. Damn you, Robert Cavalli, for upsetting me this way!

We never got a picture of my bottom half that day. I was wearing Acne Jeans and my old black clogs.

Don’t forget that I’m having a 24-hour Mother’s Day jewelry sale at www.wendybrandes.com on Tuesday, May 4. Details are here.

I like the shade on you. It’s more of a berry than a pink. It matches the flowers on the table.

It is a gorgeous colour—but, yeah, it does have a little pink to it. You might want to go to a MAC Pro store and see if they have a purple pigment you can mix in with your Violetta. I feel sure that they do.

Oh good call on the purple lipstick. I have been in the market myself for some that doesn’t make me look like I should be rushed to the hospital.

So did the MAC store make good on your order after all then?

It does look pink, but it’s a nice shade…mid-purple with a bit of neon sass, I say.

Try Maybelline’s new line of Color Sensational, the Madison Mauve might work for you. It’s not too pink, not berry and it’s an interesting shade of purple on everyone I’ve seen wearing it. Also Revlon’s Haute Berry might work too. I’ve been on a purple kick myself.

I love that lip colour, but yeah it is a bit pinky, I wear Chanel Maniac it is a proper goth purple on me – looks red-brown in the tube which is weird!

I’d be worried that if I had purple lips people might think I had frostbite. I like the shade of pinkish-purple you’ve got going on there.

Cwangdom (the girlfriend of my boy’s identical twin) rocks a great shade of purple lipstick. I think she uses NARS.

I see what you mean about the color. It’s very nice but not exactly in the purple family. The search continues! And love the new shades. I finally broke down and bought a new pair while in the islands.

It’s too bad we didn’t get the full view photo of you w/ the clogs and jeans. Has anybody in blogville ever seen “casual Wendy?” The Cavalli pic. came out really great through the glass! Good job. And you look so adorable in the picture — told ya!

I think Cavalli was off to a good start with this dress, but went woefully wrong both with the embellishment and the cups. They just look weird to me.

You, however, look superb. I love those glasses!

You may be surprised to hear I may have a notion of where to locate a violet lipstick, I *think* saw a Revlon one when at the drugstore last week. That is one darling photo of you, the glasses are TDF. Totally.

You are such a star Miss Wendy, smiles at you!

Stupid Cavalli! And yes, it’s pink, lovely on you, though. Nars had a great dark purple lipstick AGES ago, although it dried up my lips like hell at the time. Probably no longer does this!

I buy at least one purple lipstick every season, still looking for one that looks like I smeared blackberry juice on my lips. This spring, I got Lipstick Queen’s China Town lip pencil in Mystery. It’s not my elusive crushed blackberry, but it is straight up purple. Sheer-ish but buildable, and it is essentially a giant crayon. Even comes with its own giant sharpener. I love it. Also got it in Genre, if you want a true orange as well.

Wish I was a mom already so I could talk my husband into a rose gold and silver Lady Jane necklace!

I lost a lot of my antispam words in a tragic antispam word incident. I have to add a whole bunch back in. I’m scared to even look at what’s left there!
