The War of the Roses: Moncler vs. H&M

April 25, 2010 by WendyB

While I was reading the May issue of W, a fluffy Moncler Gamme Rouge jacket caught my eye.

The Moncler jacket in W.

The Moncler jacket from the company's website.

It reminded me of a rosette jacket from H&M’s recent Garden Collection.

The H&M jacket modeled by The Haute Pursuit. Click for more photos.

The H&M jacket by itself.

Leaving price out of it, which jacket do you prefer?

From just looking at the images, I picked the H&M jacket. I prefer the color and the sleeve length. I’d have to look at the quality though. If the H&M one was crap I’d probably say neither. I’m trying to be better knowing the shapes that suit me and if I know it won’t then I won’t buy it.

I couldn’t agree more with Poochie. She said it all.

I’m with Poochie too. Normally, I’d always opt for the better one, but the H&M one looks really cute, but it might look like cheap drek in person. Have to see it upfront and in person. I don’t like the shape of the Moncler one…on me anyway. Might look great on another body type.

I really like the ad because it throws together three disparate looks/ideas: sweet, girly floral jacket, tough zippered biking pants, and . . . Caribbean beach. But I must say, I prefer the H&M jacket. But if you’re paying, I’ll take both!

(my anti-spam word is bromance????? hmmmmm.)

LOVE the roses. I have lived years and years with the theory that … you never promised me a rose garden? fine, I’ll do one myself.

I do confess that I would immediately turn the Moncler rose jacket into a rose skirt.

Great post Miss Wendy, I actually voted for the Moncler, initially I thought I would go for the long sleeves on the H&M, but didn’t like the exaggerated shoulder so much.

I’ll be watching for the UPS man to drop off the Moncler, thank you. 🙂

The Moncler is too boxy, and not in a good way. I like the bow on the bottom, and that’s about it. The H&M just looks more…wearable.
    That’s my $.02, anyways.

I love the concept behind both but the execution of neither. I think they’re both far too boxy and bulky. I am, however, very hourglass-shaped, so I’m petrified of anything that dimensional without aggressive waist shaping.

I particularly dislike the sleeve length on the Montcler version, though.

Yeah, I agree with the masses. The H&M version has a more wearable shape and is more tame. BUT the color of the Moncler is waaaay prettier.

I love a short-sleeved jacket, but I also love the bright red of the H&M jacket and think I like it’s texture better. In my fantasy world, I have both, as well as more of your fucking amazing jewelry.

Both my eye and wallet gravitate toward the H&M version. I like the cut and sleeves on H&M jacket. but it’s not like any H&M near here will ever carry it. :-p

Well, isn’t this just fashions ultimate predicament? Lower priced chains knock off high-end designers so quickly, it makes ones head spin. As I’m completely against this aspect of this industry, it pains me to say that I did, in fact, vote for the H&M jkt. It is actually more wearable in my opinion.

I really dig the color of the Moncler, but the shape of the H&M. That’s why I voted for “If you’re paying, I’ll take both!”

I wish I could see those photos in W for myself, but I can’t, because those clowns haven’t sent the last two issues! I subscribed, I got an issue, and then . . . NOTHING. I contacted customer service. We’ll see what they do about it. If they don’t fix the problem, I’ve got a chicken who could use a special pecking project.

    I’m being very contradictory here… I don’t shop at H & M and normally wouldn’t choose it, but judging from the pictures it looks far less bulky than the Moncler. But, I do love the texture on the Moncler, and I know it would be something you’d treasure for ages as opposed to the H & M which could be dodgy. So I’m actually no help even though I voted for the H&M based on silhouette alone. (;

Wendy, if you see the H&M roses jacket in NYC somewhere and wouldn’t mind picking one up for me, I will airmail you dinero tomorrow — I simply MUST HAVE IT (and I won’t be back until mid-May).

I love the color of the Moncler, but I do love the cleaner look of the H&M variant. That said, none really grab me; not really into flowers that much.

Hi there-I’m loving the H&M jacket for the colour and cut and texture, the Moncler one is more uniquely stylish though!!

By far the Moncler. The colour, the sort of furriness, the shorter sleeves. But then I do have this annoying habit of choosing the most expensive option. xx

moncler had me just for the color…rich and vibrant…although the shape of the h&m looks better…but again…it’s a picture…walking into h&m…i am sure i would find a whole lotta wrong with it…just sayin… =)

i smiled when i read your first sentence…i am constantly perusing some issue of some magazine…and “something” catches my eye…which explains my pile of ripped out “inspiration” pages…

The Moncler cut is boxier than the H&M, which reminds me of an 80s power jacket from Dynasty. But I’d take then both!!

I saw the H&M version in peach at the store.
I wass like, holy complex H&M!
I like the Moncler version better though just because I think the jacket is enough without the puff sleeves.

Moncler all the way for me, please. But that’s my cut. And I tried on the H&M jacket, it’s very cute for the price but nowhere near as fabulous as the Moncler.
