What Wendy Wore: Hogan’s Heroes

April 7, 2010 by WendyB

There are bloggers who are passionate about wardrobe remixing — in other words, styling the same clothes different ways to get many looks. Then there’s me.  I wore this ensemble twice last weekend, just changing the black t-shirt. Now that I think of it, I wore the same jacket-shoe-bag-necklace combo with the black version of this jean style last October when gorgeous blogger Jennine of The Coveted and Independent Fashion Bloggers took these pictures of my accessories.

Hairy purple jacket: Versace
T-shirt:
Michael Stars

Jeans: Acne Generic Girl

Shoes: Hogan
Bag: Sonia Rykiel
Necklace: Queen of Scots by Wendy Brandes, of course!

Jennine has told me I should do more outfit posts.  If you get bored by them because of my lack of remixing, let me know and I’ll give you Jennine’s email address so you can complain to her.

I’ve had the hairy purple jacket for years and it has shown up on the blog many times.  And I’ve been into purple for a couple of years. But lately it’s taken over my life. I recently bought purple sunglasses and I’ve been desperately seeking the right purple lipstick. The one I’m wearing in this photo — Hang-Up by MAC — is not it. Too dark.  Up the Amp by MAC is too light. I’m trying to get Violetta but it’s only available at the MAC Pro stores.

The Hogan shoes always get compliments. That amuses me, because the shoes looked completely unloved on the sales rack where I found them (MrB insists that I tell you that I would never have bought the shoes without his encouragement). Also strangely amusing: Hogan’s Heroes, a sitcom set in a German prisoner-of-war camp during World War II. Isn’t that a jolly scenario? I watched a lot of Hogan’s Heroes reruns in the ’70s.

Colonel Robert E. Hogan was played by Bob Crane. In 1978, Crane was found beaten to death. Suspicion fell on an acquaintance of Crane’s named John Henry Carpenter, but Carpenter wasn’t charged for years, even though he had three names and you know what that means. When the case was reopened in the ’90s, Carpenter was brought to trial and acquitted. He died in 1998, maintaining his innocence, and Bob Crane’s murder remains officially unsolved. A movie about Crane called Auto Focus came out in 2002 with Greg Kinnear playing Crane and Willem Dafoe playing Carpenter. That reminds me of the time on Family Guy when Stewie had a scary Willem Dafoe under his bed.

And that, my friends, proves that everything is related to Family Guy, even my outfits.

I love that jacket – it’s just so different and fantastic. And those shoes! So glad you saw the wow in them (or maybe they were waiting for you?) and snatched them up.

And I would love more outfit posts!

I remix because I have to, I don’t have much to work with. If I didn’t have to, I might not! Plus everything about this is perfect, so why change it?

Hi Wendy! I’ve read your blog for some months and you always make me laugh. Thank you for that. It’s particularly nice because I work in a mostly silent office and so the sound of my muffled laughter is one of the only sounds I hear besides the air conditioner and keyboards clacking. Can you imagine what this silence does to a musician? It makes me crazy. Anyway, the laughter helps.

Also, I’ve been looking for the perfect purple as well. The Lime Crime Airborn Unicorn (neon lavender) is too light and the Revlon Va Va Violet is too dark. (I’m on a budget.) Some of those Mac purples are gorgeous! If you find an available and lovely purple, will you please share it with the audience? Or just with me. I will keep the secret.

Why remix such a perfect outfit? I love that jacket and smile every time you post it; I smile every time I follow the associations on your blog as well. More outfit posts though, especially with such charming commentary.

I’ll be glad if you share purple lipstick successes, I’ve been on the lookout too, and adore my own purple sunglasses.

I’m not surprised you get lots of compliments on those shoes! They’re like this super stylish glammed up version of sneakers! Very cool!

P.S. Your blog captchas are talking to me… It says “amusing”, probably insisting that I describe your shoes as “amusing”, so be it, AMUSING shoes!!

I’ve always liked that fuzzy purple jacket, it looks so great on you. I also spend too much on my clothes to wear only a few times and then forget about.

Love those shoes! If we were shopping together (and the same size) we would have fought over them if there was only one pair!

THANK YOU for putting that Family Guy clip up. I’ve always said you can relate everything to a South Park/Family Guy episode. Did you see the FG episode about the “special” horse? It had me in tears…

I think it’s MORE stylistically brave to wear the same beloved outfit twice in the same weekend than to do two meticulously crafted different ones. Talk about living the “wear what you want” credo!

It strikes me that the badass Hogan shoes are the grown up lady hipster equivalent of Converse. 🙂

    Um…kind of.

Talking of lipstick (as you were) I’m in full on “find the perfect lipstick” mode. One day, it will be mine. Oh yes. It will be mine.

That jacket works wonderfully with the hogan heels! There is something about the shoes from the front view that reminds me of the Balenciaga autumn/winter 2010-2011 shoes.

Have a gorgeous day hun xx

I wear the same thing over and over. The blush sequined tank. I either wear it with cargo shorts or leggings. Perhaps cut-offs for the summer. I like to wear it to Tina’s and for walking to the grocery store. I just love it. I find I pick one thing and wear it for as long as it can hold up and then move onto something else.

I’m with Miss C on Hogan’s Heroes. I’d actually turn OFF the TV! And I was just thinking today that, while I”m into all kinds of crazy colours lately, I’m not really wearing any purple. Hmmm, maybe I have to think about this.

I loved “Hogan’s Heroes” when I was a kid. So much so that I was THRILLED to see Richard Dawson on “Family Feud” and Larry whatisname on “Liar’s Club”. I even loved “SuperDad” a Disney movie starring Robert Crane that I saw when I was five.

Ok now that I’ve written all that out, I’m seeing the creepiness factor….
