Gloriana Necklace, Venus Earrings and…

November 15, 2009 by WendyB

Once in a while you put on a dress and think, “This is so ME!” and feel super-special all night. When that happened to me last week, I took an outfit picture so that y’all could share in the super-special feeling. But! I’m going to keep you in suspense for a little bit.

I didn’t get a great shot of my jewelry while I was wearing the outfit, so I thought I’d take a craptacular close-up at home.A  Here is my Gloriana necklace in white gold, accompanied by my Venus earrings in white gold and moonstone, set against the dress I was wearing.

glorianawhite

I usually wear the Gloriana in yellow gold, but the black, gray and silver of the dress inspired me to get the white gold necklace out of the vault. The Venus earrings were originally made in rose gold and rose quartz. I also have a matching rose quartz/rose gold necklace and ring; chalcedony Venus earrings; and a rutilated quartz Venus necklace. The Venus design reminds me of a meeting with a retailer a year ago or so. The buyers liked a lot of my designs but one vaguely waved in the direction of the Venus pieces and said, “Don’t do anymore like that. Those are bad.”A  I had a follow-up meeting with her next week and deliberately wore the rose gold and quartz Venus earrings. “Those are beautiful. Do more like that,” she said.

While I continue to brood over that conversation, you can admire my dress by Francis. Strapless dresses are a great excuse for me to wear a major necklace, so I moved the flower brooch that comes with the dress to the waist from the top of the dress.

Look how happy I am in my Francis dress!

Ugh, people are weird. They love it, they don’t love it!

I love it! I love Gloriana in white metal. I’ve only ever seen it in yellow gold, so this was a real treat for me.

Freaking buyers! That story could be the story of my life! Bottom line, buyers have no clue what they want. Until of course they get their selling reports in, then after the fact it’s all, “ooh we NEED more of that!”

BTW my spam word was “Earrings” 😉

Gotta ‘love’ those people who have no idea about anything, what’s great and what’s hot!

Obviously I sneaked a look at you in the dress first – wonderful, love it!

The Gloria necklace is just to die for and as for the buyers comments – it exposes the fact there is no magic in any of it. Buyers do not have an ‘eye’ they are just human and have preferences – which probably shift on a daily basis.

Wendy, these designs are fabulous! I particularly like the Gloriana design in white gold – and love the fact that it’s inspired by a famous old Queen. The Venus earrings also look great with the necklace – just wish I had the budget of a royal – even a minor one! x

Oh, I’m going to have to check out those earrings in quartz gold! The silver looks lovely with the dress; the look reminds me of a full moon shining through a break in the clouds.

She probably saw that you were not one to be trifled with. I’m sure she also saw that she had previously been misguided and that the Gloriana pieces are AWESOME.

And about the hair: Dad didn’t comment until about an hour ago, and my mom wasn’t surprised, because I say “I think I’ll just shave my head” all the time.

The story about the retail buyer is hilarious. The lesson: don’t listen when people tell you what to do–just do what you want. (Of course, you don’t need that advice!)
