The Color of Royalty

August 15, 2008 by WendyB

When Karla of Karla’s Closet modeled her peach American Apparel skirt recently, this anonymous comment made me laugh out loud:

Oh how glad I am you didn’t choose the purple Barney-esque color. I think a lot of your style originality comes from the fact that you can wear just about any brand (I even dare to say something like Abercrombie with it’s huge moose logo splattered across the front) without making it look tacky. I think the purple shade from AA is so tacky and name-brand-obvious when worn that it would have ruined anything you pared with it.
NICE CHOICE.

Here are my (previously posted) legs in my tacky purple American Apparel skirt.

Who knew this skirt was such a prestigious, name-brand item? Here I was thinking it was a generic piece in a flattering color. I stand corrected! Anyway, if you’re like me and like purple despite its being an “in” color, you’ll appreciate gorgeous blogger ENC’s purple Balenciaga bag. Tell her you love it!

My favorite purple pieces are the jacket and skirt of a Versace suit I got a number of years ago. You’ve seen these photos before.

BarbaraB nervously cozies up to the hairy purple jacket
Plaid and flower feet are the perfect combination

I just realized that the prestigious American Apparel skirt will be fabulous with flower feet. I’ll have to wear that combination soon.

UPDATED TO ADD: Thanks to Pamcasso for alerting me to Carine Roitfeld wearing the American Apparel skirt last year.

Purple is my favourite “neutral” (although I’m very fond of peach too) – that Versace jacket is extremely wonderful!

PS. your rolled jeans campaign has finally got the better of me…

purple is a special color. the 6th chakra, the third eye, rich and royal. worn by royalty and those who want to develop their own pychic intuition, consciously or subconsciously.
p.s. and i just got the new violet sprouse cashmere scarf…

You don’t remind me of Barney at all. But: “I love you, you love me . . .”

I love purple! Purple plaid . . . oooh la la. I like the purple more than the peach.

We all know you deal only in prestigious name-brands in only the most fabulous IT/IN colors, as do I.

    This must make us superior.

    Right?

That Versace suit is probably the most perfect purple I’ve ever seen. I’ll send the purple Balenciaga to you so you can get a whole purple Barney look going.

Now, I’ll go check out the CRF thingy.

What a random comment by anon. Your purple skirt looks great – especially on you. I read the Christian Francis Roth story this morning in the WSJ. It was really interesting to hear about the business end of his design “comeback.” (Tell Mr. B we finally gave up on the LA Times after they fired everyone and got rid of our favorite features. His job is now getting so much more important.)

hey wendyB. That’s a funny post.
Karla would have looked just as good wearing a light purple number if you ask me. 🙂

Love your flower feet. I laughed hard when I saw the shoe in your previous post but they do go with your skirt I must admit. 🙂

Aw, thanks, Retifism. I think purple looks good on nearly everyone, really. Even if it is “name brand.” (When did American Apparel become such a prestigious brand???)

I agree with thesundaybest. I think it’s considered “name-brand-obvious” bc Carine Roitfeld wore it about a year ago, which got some press I suppose. I still plan to get it!
