More Fringed Bags

July 20, 2008 by WendyB

They’re everywhere! Here’s a Fendi.

$595.95 at Designer Exposure

And here’s a Botkier.

$650 on Shopbop

There are a number of fringed Coach bags on eBay. (Click on the photos to go to the auctions. Also, stick to buyers with positive feedback of 99% or higher and, if there’s no “buy it now” option, don’t forget to snipe!)

My personal favorite, Prada, is also represented on eBay.

What could be better than a fringed Prada bag? How about a fringed Prada dress!

This fascination goes back to my childhood: I wanted to be an “Indian” brave (we didn’t say “Native American” then) when I grew up so that I could wear fringe, feathers and face paint. (Obviously I didn’t want to be an Indian woman with a papoose strapped to me!) Since my preferred career didn’t work out for me, I have to get satisfaction by ogling stuff online. I didn’t really feel like dwelling on the fringe issue while I was stalking my Prada bag on eBay, because I was so bitter I hadn’t gotten one last year. Now that I have my bag, I’m running wild.

All of this fringe reminded of back in the day, in the early ’70s when I had a pair of leather hip-huggers with fringe down the inside of each leg–I was much smaller and younger then. They even laced up in front. I thought I was it on a stick! Not that I was a hippie or anything like that–I worked at an insurance company, for Pete’s sake. I just liked the fashion, so I called myself a “fringe hippie,” as in on the edge of it all.

oh my God. I like fringe, and I like leather (I grew up in friggin Argentina) but you couldn’t pay me enough to wear a leather dress.
LOVE the Coach bag, it’s the most fun. But of course, the first Prada is, like, perfection

ah… mee too… love the fringe, only my fascination came more from the car wash than from indians (which i actually am, though my tribe doesn’t have fringe, only smoked salmon)

though, i did see a group of people be a carwash for halloween, it was pretty cool.

Jennine, I immediately got the song “Carwash” stuck in my head. I think it will be there all day. Darn you!

i think my mom still has our indian princess costumes we had way back when – before costumes were all plastic. That prada is totally the superior fringe.

I stole my aunt’s fringed brown bag back in December – now I’m wishing I stole the black patent one too.

Don’t worry, I’m not evil, she did give it to me, albeit rather begrudgingly.

I have a fan-freaking-tastic rust-brown suede fringed cowboy jacket that I break out when it’s cool enough. It makes me invincible. But my ultimate fringed bag is still one I saw on SATC — the episode with Carrie & Berger on his motorcycle. It had two large metal hoops that functioned as a handle and fringe that was literally about four feet long — SJP had to hold it at shoulder height to keep the fringe off the ground. To this day I don't know who designed it (anyone?), but to this day I still waaaaaaant it!

These bags are cool, but I like the Prada one you got. Fringe is fun, but I don’t have the guts to wear it, unless it’s a kiltie on a loafer.

Fendi is a bag with a beard, a ZZ-top bag or something.

OMG, sooo much fringe! I’m dizzy with fringe!
