Pining for Saipan

October 2, 2007 by WendyB

One of my custom-made rings is living in Saipan with my gorgeous client Deb. She sent me this photo of the ring contemplating the sunset.

Deb originally moved to Saipan with her ex-parrot, Rodney. Rodney flew away to become king of the local birds, and now Deb has a handsome human named Brad to keep her company. This was a smart exchange. I haven’t met Brad in person yet but from his emails I can tell he has much more to say than, “Good morning, Rodney,” which must be a relief to Deb. I will hazard a guess and say that, unlike Rodney, Brad probably doesn’t spend a lot of time screaming like a banshee, begging for Starburst candies and biting Deb on the ear. Of course, if that’s what Brad and Deb are into, I don’t judge. As long as everyone’s happy!

I thought Rodney was an African Grey parrot but it turns out he’s a Senegal parrot. At least I didn’t confuse him with the easily stunned Norwegian Blue Parrot. Though, like Monty Python’s Norwegian Blue, it is probable that Rodney has ceased to be, that he has expired and gone to meet his maker, and that his metabolic processes are a matter of interest only to historians.

This is not Rodney, just a random parrot picture from Wings Central

I think my new Dewdrop earrings go well with the colors in Deb’s sunset photo.

I am still undecided in the parrot vs. boyfriend debate, but this makes me lean towards one side definitively. I’ve always wanted somebody to share my Starbursts with.

Bf wants to exchange cats for birds. I told him I’d compromise with a hairless cat.

Awesomely funny post. Lots of giggling.

Suggestion: Have hairless cat sit on your shoulder like a parrot.

Oooh. I like it. And then I could do a post on fashionable hoops that won’t get in the way of one’s parrot substitute!

Don’t be so sure that Rodney has shuffled off. What if his metabolic processes are of great interest to a lusciously living Saipanese lady parrot?

Some parrots live to be 100. Not African Greys, but are we sure he’s purebred?

I see him presiding over his South Pacific nest, squawking in a New Yawk accent, and living it up bigtime.

@Victor, thanks very much. And I think you should write to all the magazines and complain about this outrage! 🙂

I agree with victor. have you been following paris?? i’m so behind in my reviews so if you visited my blog, i’m sorry…

^^Riz, I do follow the show coverage but not obsessively…I don’t have to see every look, you know? I just like a couple of highlights from everyone, unless the show itself is unbelievable theater. I just noticed in your profile that you like Boudicca (damn them for taking a queen name away from me). I have a great Boudicca jacket that would be greater if it didn’t leak feathers. I wonder if someday it will totally deflate? Anyway, I’ll take a pic one of these days.

ohhh, if you take a pic, you have to put it on my blog!! i heart boudicca. i’m writing a chapter on them for my diss.

It didn’t even click that rodney was a bird, even after you said “flew away to be King of the local birds”..i must be slow! And then i was like why the hell is Wendy telling the world about her friends personal relations, surely the friend would’nt be too impressed if she read it…but now it all makes sense and the ring looks beautiful, as well as the gorgeous sunset!

@ Shaz, thanks for the laugh (and I went back to check the post thinking “OMG! Did I never mention the bird thing?). I suppose ex-parrot read as ex-boyfriend 🙂

You know how you say great minds think alike? Well check out this post from one of my favorite “dog artists” I read on the same day I read this post…

    Abby Creek Art

    Love the earrings!

Moira, that painting is great and I had tears of laughter in my eyes at that parrot video! The spaceship sound was my favorite. My friend Deb informs me that Rodney could make the sound of a squeaking door.
