What Wendy Wore: Happy 4th of July!

July 4, 2012 by WendyB

Yesterday, I said I wouldn’t show you my new Terry de Havilland shoes until today. The reason for that should now be obvious: They’re perfect for the 4th of July.

Snakeskin shoes by Terry de Havilland.

Terry’s wife Liz told me that the flag shoes were originally designed in 1972, but that this particular pair was made for the 2004 opening of London’s Dover Street Market, the retail store created by Rei Kawakubo of the label Comme des Garรงons.

I started wearing the shoes this weekend — with the holiday falling on a Wednesday, it’s really 4th of July week, right? I enjoy Same Time, Next Year dressing, so, because I wore my Castelbajac sailor outfit for last year’s Independence Day weekend, I wore the same costume outfit for dinner with MrB on Sunday. I considered wearing my Castelbajac nautical shoes but decided the de Havilland flag shoes looked better.

What Wendy Wore
Top and pants: Castelbajac (2010)
Purse: Louis Vuitton (2001)
Watch: Louis Vuitton (2005)
Shoes: Terry de Havilland (made in 2004; received as gift from designer in 2012)

My saluting skills need work. My back is to the flag and my fingers are all over the place. Humph. Well, happy 4th of July to all my U.S. peeps. If you’re not in the U.S., have a happy day anyway! And thanks again to the de Havillands of London for my patriotic new shoes.

You look awesome, Wendy! LOVE the shoes – those are all kinds of fabulous.

The trick to my diagonal pose: you barely sit on the step, and you stretch your legs out as far as possible. If I were to lift my left hand, I would fall off the step. Shhhhh…trade secret. ๐Ÿ˜›
