What Wendy Wore: Zang Toi Dress at Zang Toi Show

September 16, 2010 by WendyB

My designing friend Zang Toi had his Spring 2011 fashion show at Lincoln Center last night. The theme was “Lone Star Cowboy & the Texas Rose,” and the inspiration was the epic 1956 movie Giant, starring Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and James Dean. Zang’s audience got to hootin’ and hollerin’ when a shirtless cowboy strolled out to start the show.

The music was Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy), of course! Click!

As always at Zang’s shows, there were beautiful gowns.

Pink silk organza empire pleated gown with cascading rose petals.

Texas Rose strapless gown with sunburst pleats overlay.

The denim trench coat over hot pants was a sex-ay look. To the left of the model, in the front row of the audience, you can see LuAnn de Lesseps (aka the Countess) from The Real Housewives of New York City. Her co-star, Ramona Singer, is the blonde fiddling with a pink phone.

Black denim floor-length trench and black denim hot pant.

But I have my eye on the Lone Star cowboy scarf-print slip dress. I already emailed Zang about it.

I might even wear it with the cowboy hat. I love it!

As promised, I wore my new red cashmere Zang dress. Gorgeous blogger Jennine of The Coveted and Independent Fashion Bloggers and gorgeous blogger/designer Stacy Lomman accompanied me. Jennine wore a doo.ri dress and a Juicy jacket. Stacy wore her own dress design and my silver Cleopatra earrings.

Jennine, WendyB, Stacy.

I was also wearing a drape-y Zang Toi sweater. “All my ladies have this sweater!” he’s always telling me. Sure enough, I found two other sweater-wearing Zang ladies. We all struck a pose.

Sweater girls!

Zang went for a white jacket, white shirt, white tie and white boutonnière. Isn’t he cute?

With Zang after the show. I'm wearing my Cleopatra necklace.

Congratulations, Zang!

Seeing these photos made me think immediately of Fields of the Nephilim, who still rock dusters and other western wear to this day.

And this was the song that popped into my head: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsSFR43Z600

Et oui, M Zang is cute in his all-white outfit while you just look cute and everyone there looked cute period!

God, I must have one of those extra long, tailored coats. Oh… and that black dress with the buckles… I’m dying!

Oooo that’s Ling Tan in the Texas Rose strapless gown! She’s a Malaysian too 😉 She and Zang recently came home to Malaysia for a short visit: http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2010/7/25/nation/6732610&sec=nation

This post spreads happiness, I love this! Love the shot of you, Jennine and Stacy especially – even if technically you’re the ony one who wears real red lipstick, it makes me think of you all as a red lips trio somehow! And this is totally random, but I think the Texas Rose gown would make a kickass wedding gown.

P.S. Do wear the horse dress with a cowboy hat! 🙂

    Dear Wends,

You and your girlfriends look really gorgeous. Love the red frock and love the black cardy arrangement that everyone seemed to own.

On a different note, I have been thinking about all your September 11 Posts that I read the other day. Tonight on tv in Australia there is a documentary on about the phone calls people made to ther families when the planes hit the tower. I’m going to watch it and I know it’s going to be really really sad. I can’t believe you were there. x

Wendy, do you know which stores sell his clothes in Los Angeles?

Probably the best thing to do is go to one of his trunk shows when he takes the collection on the road. I just emailed his office to find out about L.A. dates for you.
