Looks Can Be Deceiving

December 13, 2008 by WendyB

Jewelry photos are strange. All the small pieces look big … and all the big pieces look small. From this picture, you might think my new Wildflower Earrings were harmless little studs, but I assure you that they are actually big, bold, kickass earrings. I bet you didn’t know that flowers could kick ass. Well, they can, so don’t mess with these babies.

Gorgeous client Melissa was wearing these when she had her picture taken by Bill Cunningham of the New York Times. The earrings are 18K yellow gold with 83 points of black diamonds surrounding the pearl centers. There are 100 points in one carat, by the way. There. You learned something today. Don’t say I never did anything for you.

Right now, I have about 4 pairs of earrings, and so I am constantly on the lookout for more. If only, if only I could buy these!

If it is necessary to inform a potential client how many points make a carat, they should give these incredible earrings to me; I can appreciate them! Pantpantpantpant.

Ooooooh!!! When I get all rich and fancy I’m going to swan around in these and have my (recently tightened jaw and ear) photoed in some magazine wearing them. So sunny delicious!

It’s so hard to gauge size of jewelry and even clothing when ordering on the Internet. Photos do make items seem bigger or smaller than they are.

Those are really lovely. No wonder Bill Cunningham stopped Melissa, well that and she is lovely.

    I did learn something.

If I had any of your pieces they wouldn’t be jumbled with all of my ‘less 20 bucks’ necklaces would they?
    🙂

Even really cheap silver pieces are sealed in plastic bags or in proper boxes. I’m really hanging out to get at least one. One of those days.. when the exchange rate isn’t so brutal.

    The earrings are beautiful!

There is a great series of photos and voice-over by Bill Cunningham on the NY Times website this morning on “Dressing the Modern Woman in NY.” I know you won’t like it since it’s all about the black 🙂 but it’s still fun to see since we haven’t even been able to wear coats yet this “winter” in L.A.
