I Can See Clearly Now

March 8, 2008 by WendyB

In 1999, I agreed with the rest of the world that the Dior suit Celine Dion wore to the Oscars was a fashion blight.

Today, I spit upon the 1999 WendyB and her boring taste! I love this suit now. It is razor-sharp and futuristic.

I would definitely wear it and and relish every jaw that dropped. I don’t think I’d wear it to the Oscars because it seems a little cazh for that, but any other event would work for me. If I were a hip chick marrying a rock star in the late ’60s/early ’70s, I’d wear it to my wedding. After all, Bianca Jagger wore a white pantsuit when she married Mick in 1971.

Yoko Ono rocked the kneesocks at her 1969 wedding to John Lennon.

Or maybe I’d wear a swan dress. So there.

My best friend’s Mum rocked hot pants and go-go boots on her wedding day. Which makes her my hero in some ways!

Ah, the pride of Canada. I was indifferent to the suit, but always felt the pimptastic hat had to go.

On a purely shallow level, if some super hot chick wore that outfit, it would have been okay. (going straight to Hell)
    Like…Rachel Weiss or someone.
I compared that look to Spy vs Spy in my Oscar post.
    That’s all I think of.

Wow. It’s uncanny that you post this today. I’m struggling with what to wear for my wedding day (11 days from now), and this reminds me that there are more possibilities out there.

You could totally pull off the swan dress, you KUKU bird, you!

As I keep on repeating on blogs all over…bring back the ‘awful/awesome’ outfits at the Oscars….you could definitely pull off the sharpness of that backwards suit…

OK, 2008 WendyB – I’m with 1999 WendyB (not about white suits in general but about that particular white suit on that particular woman). It’s great that you’re expanding your horizons, though 🙂 K

About the swan dress idea, what I think you ought to do, WendyB, since you’re already so happily married, is have yourself an elegant black one made for some sort of fancy evening event you have in the future. You’d pull it off with panache.

K.Line, do not listen to that WendyB! She will steer you wrong.
Lynette, I LOVE the idea of a black swan! It makes me want to dance a pas de deux.

I think Lynette have had a great idea, it would turn much better then the white swan.

As a Christian gal, I’m not allowed to wear white on my wedding day.

I’m no Celine fan, but I really liked that outfit at the time – it really stood out against all the “safe” gowns. But then again, I tend to like the crazy outfits better. We need to bring back the likes of Cher for awards shows! The last few have been really boring.
