What Wendy Wore: Vintage at Ouest

August 5, 2014 by WendyB

MrB and I recently had dinner with friends at Ouest, a good restaurant on the Upper West Side. If you’re in New York City, I recommend that you check it out. It’s not too formal; you can definitely wear jeans. However, I dressed up a little bit, just because it was one of those days when I felt I should make an effort. This dress was a good choice for a breezy night. I had a few minor Marilyn moments, including the one captured in the photo below.

Dress: Possible vintage Michael Vollbracht (2005-ish?)
Shoes: Giuseppe Zanotti (2014, recently seen here)

I’ve had this dress for many years — possibly close to a decade — and have worn it on many, many occasions, but I have very few photos of it for some reason.  The only one I could find on the blog was from 2010.

A few weeks after I wore that dress for that photo in 2010, I overdressed for a dinner at Ouest in a Black Halo dress. I guess Ouest brings out my best! That time I had the pleasure of seeing former Law & Order SVU stars Chris Meloni and Richard Belzer dining together. Alas! No such luck this year.

We were docked for a week near the 79th St. boat basin and walked up to that neighborhood every evening. We must have walked right by Ouest. It was fun to pick a restaurant on Columbus or Amsterdam and sit out on the sidewalk.

Okay, I just gotta ask…exactly how big is this closet of yours?! P.S. The ROYGBIV dress is a keeper, as are ALL your fabulous vintage and designer pieces!! So, really, how big is your closet?!

Ha ha! Not that big, really. NYC closets don’t compare to suburban closets for sure. I do store fragile vintage and evening gowns at a special storage place though. They get too squeezed and damaged if I keep them at home. If I had closets like my sister has in her house in a Chicago suburb, I’d be able to keep those around too.

I see what you mean about stripes, ha. This is a fantastic dress worn to perfection. And I love the updraft effect!

And how well your effort paid off! Lovely you, always. Darling dress, and your shoes just set it off. Occassion perfect. So glad to see your face. Do you still love your hair? I do!

Yes, I do love the hair! I want to get it touched up, asap, maybe make the mullet just a touch more extreme?

I had vague thoughts lately after looking at some old pictures of “Maybe I should go shorter” and then I thought, “What, and give up a MULLET?!” lol.
