Jewel of the Month: Earring Homage to Eminem and MMLP2

November 5, 2013 by WendyB

My heavy-metal-loving customers have been asking me to add a “sign of the horns” stud to my emoji and emoji-inspired earring collection for a while now.  The gesture became associated with metal because it was the late vocalist Ronnie James Dio’s signature move when he was in Black Sabbath. (Read what he had to say about the meaning of the gesture in the last paragraph of this 2001 interview.)

This was heavy-metal god Ronnie James Dio’s signature pose. Click for source.

The earring was pretty high up on my to-do list, anyway, but it vaulted to the No. 1 spot when Eminem showed up on his new Marshall Mathers LP 2 album cover doing his best Dio.

So here’s November’s Jewel of the Month in silver …

… and here’s the gold version.

These are a mix of satin and high polish finish to bring out the definition of the fingers.

I’ve paid tribute to Eminem’s hands before … for my middle finger emoji-style earring, of course.

Eminem is to bird-flipping as Ronnie James is to horns,

I still really want the emoji people to add my middle finger style to their list of options.

The Marshall Mathers LP 2 (aka MMLP2) is officially out today, though it leaked on Wednesday, Oct. 30. If I were a recording artist, I’d be so mad if my stuff got out before I wanted it to. Fuck a middle finger emoji … I’d be tweeting you with this one.

gun

Gun emoji.

Hmmm … will that join my collection? On the one hand, I’m in favor of gun control. On the other hand, an earring has never shot anyone to the best of my knowledge.  You’ll have to wait and see.

Absolutely love it! And thank you for acknowledging the late Mr. Dio, as so many idiots use the gesture inappropriately & have no clue where it came from or what it’s original meaning was. I rarely “flip the bird”; when I was a teen (having learned its history & found that it expressed my feelings quite perfectly) used the UK version. Back then it confused people thinking (since it was the 70s and still hippyish) I was giving them the peace sign, which totally cracked me up! Now that people are a little more “worldly” due to our info-overload, it gets the point across (except to dullards living in a bubble) so that would be my request to add to the emoji people. XXX
PS Dan & Gwensday say I’ve turned into Frank Gallagher from the original “Shameless” as I sometimes do it the way he does, frantically flying each hand up in rapid succession & laughing maniacally! ACK, the things we pick up… hmmm… there’s something to telly being evil! Muahahaha!

I have thought about doing the UK two-fingered salute! The trick is to make it obvious it’s NOT the peace sign.

I think the trick is to make the fingers face forward, not palm side forward. And usually the fingers are slightly bent, not straight out like a peace sign, since you sort of flick your hand back and forward a little to get the point across unlike a peace sign or flipping the bird where the fingers are pretty stiff & you just stick your hand up & sometimes stick it straight up again or shake it. Make sense? Might be difficult, but if anyone can do it, it’ll be you! And those emoji people should be spying on you to add some oomph to their offerings! (Maybe with a little cash bonus? Hey one can always hope!) XXX

I really want the emoji people to add some of my designs (while giving me credit, of course!)
