Fashion Repeats Itself: Polka Dots and Flowers

November 26, 2013 by WendyB

Katy Perry wore a polka-dot-and-floral strapless gown on the red carpet at the American Music Awards.

I got all excited, hoping she was wearing a 1980s Patrick Kelly … perhaps a ballgown version of the vintage dress currently available at Shrimpton Couture.

Nope! Katy’s gown is actually from Oscar de la Renta’s Spring 2014 collection. Tom + Lorenzo have a photo of the de la Renta dress on the runway. Who would have guessed that polka dots and flowers were a combination that would span the decades?

Weirdly for me I’m not keen on the vintage dress (or Katy Perry) but the dress she’s wearing is blinking gorgeous. x

I’ve never been sure how much I liked that Patrick Kelly either. I think I’m just not a floral and polka dot person, because I wouldn’t rush to try on the Oscar either.

Blah. Katy looks pretty, but could have chosen a better dress.
Actually the P.K. would have suited her more!

Her hair and makeup are great.

Both remind me of an Easter dress I had in the 90s. It was polka dot with cherry blossoms. My grandmother nearly had a fit because it was black, but after we butt heads she finally gave in ‘because it had flowers’.
