Holiday Host Gift for Hieronymus Bosch

December 9, 2010 by WendyB

With holiday parties upon us and time travel a possibility (well, it is on Family Guy!), I’ve been worried about finding an appropriate host gift for 15th-16th century Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch. I mean, just in case he invites me to zoom back to 1500 for a festive shindig.

Luckily, the Los Angeles Times Magazine pointed out this somewhat disturbing, limited-edition ornament by Peter Eudenbach. The piece, called Chimera, is available at artwareeditions.com for $150.

I think this would be the perfect gift for the guy who painted an egg monster into his Last Judgment triptych.

A close-up of the egg monster (look towards the left side of the image).

I could get him an actual egg-monster figurine for only $61.95 …

… but I bet everyone gives him those.  I prefer to do something more original. Speaking of originality, if any of you time travel back to Hieronymus’s party with a Eudenbach in hand, I’m going to be very angry. Find your own scary present!

I’ll bring a Faberge to tame him… or any of the Art Knife Invitational knife if I wanna stay in the scary theme… 🙂

    Happy Hols!

Hahaa, this is great. I seem to remember when younger flipping through a ‘Garfield’ animated show which had a little egg monster walking around, not nearly as ominous as Bosch’s though. Of course, maybe it made it all the more terrifying that it looked less menacing?

You have good taste in art.

Oh my god, that egg monster replica is terrifying! I think I’d rather have the ball ornament with chicken legs. *shudder*

Woah. These guys are twisted. That egg monster is really creepy, and possibly the living dead, seeing as it’s got an arrow shot straight through it.

The ornament monster is also creepy, but at least keeps some mystery about it. So I can imagine a cute little chick stuck inside there instead of a hideous evil reptile.

I like the Xmas tree ornament. But what would it look like hanging from a bough, when the chicken legs take a spill?

I’m not the greatest fan of Renaissance artists but Hieronymus Bosch was definitely an interesting guy!! I could look at his paintings for hours, they’re crazy. My friend would love that ornament.
