Anna, Call Me

May 6, 2008 by WendyB

What happened at the superhero-themed Costume Institute Ball last night? Everyone interpreted “superhero” to mean “pretty strapless dress.” Boring! The only ones who dressed to impress me were Anna Wintour, Amber Valletta, Rachel Bilson and Christina Ricci.

Where were the leggings, the masks, the vintage Mugler? And while I’m asking questions, why is Rachel Bilson considered worthy of attention? I’m sure she’s a delightful young lady, but her resume is thinner than an Estonian model.

Anna should invite me next year. I love a theme party; at least I’d make an effort.

This reminds me how disappointed I am that I sniped too low to win this crazy, bat-winged jacket on eBay. It definitely has a superhero thing going on.

And are these superhero shades or what?!

These are still available on eBay

Christina’s outfit is fab! She looks radiant!

I think this outfit is the one worn by that fabled superhero, Call Me, of the St Valentine’s Day Candy Hearts brigade.

Today’s word verification looks like knutjunta.

Christina looks lovely. Lovely and elegant.

And I like that the dress gives me a hint of Wonder Woman elegantly draping sheerness over her work-a-day suit!

Agree! The closest for many was primary colors (Katie’s red and blue, zac posen + date in red, yellow and blue). They could have had SO much more fun!

Iman? Well she did dress nicely but this is the Costume Institute Party for heaven’s sakes! Love CR’s outfit and the shades.

Loved Christina Riccis dress, very nice colours. Although I think everything was unexciting as to what I thought it would be!

Totes agree on the yawnworthy front… but my choices were slightly different. Rachel loks a bit amish, no?
    I <3 Naomi Watts outfit
And Max Azria’s little tee, sooo cute
But WTF did no-one wear a mask?!?

I’m with you on Rachel Bilson and while we’re at it — WTH is Diane Kruger?? I swear she is on Every. Single. Page. Of this month’s InStyle — she must just cruise NYC in a taxi cab looking for camera flashes.

there was a theme? pff they all dressed so boring then, although everyone looked very pretty 🙂

Most of the dresses were pretty, but rather boring (where’d the notion of a theme go? Heck I was waiting for someone to show up as Cardcaptor Sakura…). And as for Rachel Bilson, I’d reckon she still has a fatter resume than Anna Wintour’s grinning robot aka Emmy Rossum, AND a more interesting dress so I guess it’s ok.
I did love Christina Ricci’s dress though..

You, with that jacket/batwing thingy, the latex leggings, dominatrix boots, slicked hair, red lipstick, and that pair of sunglasses would be the perfect superhero look for you.

    What would your name be?

Damn it, those latex leggings again! The cape is an interesting piece!

Awww man, that bat winged jacket would’ve been a really, really cool catch! Are there any more up for bid?

Wendy – Gotta say I half expected you to be there (with von Bakonstein, natch) given your glamorous NY life… Their loss, of course, because we know you would have looked badass.

They should have invited you! We know you would have gone all out!

Funny how Anna Wintour worked the Superhero theme, while Bee went all pretty-princess.

Doggone it, I wish you’d won that bat-winged jacket. I can see you clearly in my minds’ eye, all smiling and shiny-coiffed and latex-legged.

Glad you like my ABC Wednesday.

Altamira and Lynette, I didn’t bid high enough because I was thinking, “Do I really NEED a crazy striped jacket?” Sadly, after I lost the auction, I realized I DID need it!

ENC, I’m open to suggestions for my superhero name.

“her resume is thinner than an Estonian model” hahahaha!! It’s so true, but she always seems to get invited to swanky events, i think you should defintely stalk Anna in the hopes of being invited…you and your but bows will show them how its done 🙂

And i’m really disappointed in you, for not winning the batwing jacket…very unique! And the small cat eye sunglasses rock my socks.

EXCELLENT point about the lack of masks. F. Such an obvious miss. I love a beautiful sparkly mask.

I agree with you about Christina’s look – it’s perfect for her, not to mention the occasion.
