Killer Comedy, Coat and Queen

September 28, 2007 by WendyB

Recently, I was lucky enough to catch part of 9 to 5 on TV. You must see this kick-ass feminist comedy about three assistants (Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, and Dolly Parton) who take revenge on their chauvinist boss (Dabney Coleman).

Dolly looks unbelievable in her clingy knit dresses and baby blue trench coat. I was looking for a picture of the coat when I came upon this clip, which to my joy has a poison ring in it. I had completely forgotten about the poison ring!

Please note that all my poison rings are designed for entertainment purposes only, not homicide! You must be law-abiding to wear my jewelry. That said, allow me to introduce you to my latest merry murderess, Queen Edburga (also spelled Eadburh). This Anglo-Saxon queen was an enthusiastic poisoner of her husband’s enemies, but when she accidentally offed her husband she had to hightail it out of town. She wound up in the court of Charlemagne, who was quite taken with her. He offered her a choice for her next spouse: himself or his son. She picked the son. Wrong answer! Charlemagne said, “Had you chosen me, you would have had both of us. But, since you chose him, you shall have neither.” And life went downhill from there for the incorrigible Edburga, but I suspect that she had some good times along the way.

My Edburga rings are made with blackened sterling silver and 18K gold.

To return to my original topic, I was never able to find a good shot of Dolly Parton in the incredible coat (not only was it baby blue, but I thought maybe, just maybe, it was patent leather). This pink vintage trench from Posh Vintage is the next best thing.

Coat available for $115 at Posh Vintage

i love the idea of poison rings! the rose quartz is beautiful. i wouldn’t mind paring that with the trench and a big black umbrella on the next rainy day.

You are somehow managing to usurp all previous favorites with your new pieces. Quit it, lady! These rings are too pretty to exist!
